Hello.
I've been thinking about the man and the machine in music, and of course I thought
of German icons, Kraftwerk.
And in honor of my upcoming Dusseldorf concert, I wanted to
explore their particular genius.
Now, Kraftwerk are known as the electronic Beatles, according
to Wikipedia, but to me they're just wonderful composers.
Like this classic [C] melody, Tour
de France, which maybe you could even imagine played by an orchestra in an old Hollywood
movie.
[Gm] [Bb]
My personal favorite is the melody from The Model.
[Dm]
[Am]
It's much more compact and
economical, and yet it still tells a story.
See, we're in A minor at the beginning of
this song, and the first phrase jumps out of A minor [Dm] like a question going up, and then
of course we hear a very specific answer that spells out A minor.
[Dm] But [Am]
this [Em] piano, this
acoustic instrument [E] doesn't really do it justice, so without using a synthesizer, maybe we can
find some ancient instrument that actually sounds modern, like this 400-year-old piece
of garbage.
Maybe this could be [F] our Kraftwerk instrument.
