Hi friends, it's Marshall again here in Cape Town.
Marilyn and I are just hanging out here in my flat in the lovely Greenpoint neighborhood.
[G]
I got services coming up this Friday night with the Temple Israel Chesed Band.
If you're in Cape Town and you're looking for a Friday night on the second and fourth
Fridays of every month at the Weinberg Campus, they have a service called Shabbat Chesed
with lots of instruments [E] and singing and it's such a joyful, deeply spiritual service, at
least for me.
So if you're looking for a place to daven on a Friday night, check out Shabbat Chesed.
I thought that this is going to be my last one here, so I [Abm] thought that we might try something
just a little different for L'Chad Odi.
And we'll sing two melodies, [G] as they normally do.
I'm not going to sing the whole of the text in this video, I'm just going to sing a couple
of verses to give you [Em] a sense of what [Eb] each melody is.
Yeah, the first [G] melody is Craig Taubman's Mizrahi melody, and then [N] the second is the
melody from Koachin HaShema, the progressive Jewish congregation in Jerusalem.
Yeah, so I won't talk too much about it.
We're in the key of D minor, I'm going to be using A [Dm] minor shapes, but on the fifth
fret, [Bm] which puts us into the key of D minor, I find that for both of these melodies, that's
really an ideal key to sing in.
[Em] I think that the latter, the second melody was written in this key, [B] and the first melody
was either intended for this key [N] or E minor, it's close.
D minor really works for group [Em] singing though, that's what I have found anyway, in my, [B] you
know, limited experience, whatever kind [N] of experience.
So yeah, here's L'Chad Odi, two ways.
I'll sing the chorus a little bit of both, I may sing a verse or two for each melody
just to get it in the head.
And that's it, so I hope you enjoy it, and if you'd like to sing it this way, you can do it.
