My name is Leif Alsati.
I'm from Ann Arbor, Michigan.
28 years old.
I started playing guitar when I was 13.
I started singing when I was 4.
And I got into writing songs and played a little piano.
So I started playing guitar when I was 13 and have been doing it ever since.
I was a big Beatles fan and through the Beatles got into Cream and Hendrix and Zeppelin and all the classic rock.
And of course recognizing that all the players that I loved were really steeped in blues, I just started checking out the old records.
And really got into Elmore James and Buddy Guy and Willie Dixon, you know, Hubert Sumlin.
And from there got more into the jazz side of things as well.
So I really dig Wes Montgomery and John Schofield, Pat Metheny.
I think the beautiful thing about the blues is the simplicity of the music itself forces the development of each individual's voice musically to really come out and be expressed.
So, you know, you have basically the same three chords, sometimes a few more depending on substitutions and stuff that people are playing over.
And, you know, it's really up to you to define your own voice musically and make something unique out of that, you know.
So I think it's a real strong test of a true musician.
Thank you very much for the opportunity to be able to come out and play here.
It makes me happy to see all these blues players from different parts of the country and keep the blues alive.
