Welcome [B] to the next tune which is called Le Batteu.
Le Batteu, The Harvester.
So, a tune that I have learned from a big band home which is called La Bottine Souriante.
Big, big ten piece band.
I've been part of the band ten years.
And that's a tune I have learned in the
In my first tune I have learned.
It's an A key tune.
Really great.
You can play it as well, cross-tune.
So, [Cm] in A.
Which is really fun.
There's lots of tunes in Quebec [C] which we play cross-tune as well.
So, again, we should know the arpeggio of the A key.
Arpeggio, [F#] first, third and fifth degree of the scale of the A key.
So there, if we start the full thing, just a little exercise to do when you're going into an A or D or G key.
Just a good warm [A]-up.
So that's the arpeggio of A.
I have done two scales.
So from the [Gm] string of G [A] to the A, third finger of E string.
[G#] So, when we start a [A] tune.
[Am] Really, really simple.
We go up the scale to go [B] to the E string.
What we're going to do now, I will only play the notes.
I won't add any double stops, open string.
So, let's try that.
So, really easy, you start open A going through until you arrive on the E, open E.
[C#]
[B] So, it's the G sharp that we do there.
[A]
[D] [G]
So [B] that's the first kind of phrase, the first measure of the tune.
[C#m] [D]
[C#m] [D] Excellent, so here we [N] are to the advanced part of the tune, Le Batteu.
Le Batteu, it's the harvester, a great tune.
Louis Boudreau, his nickname was Pitu.
Pitu is little dog, that we'll say.
His nickname was playing that tune.
I have put on my version of the tune, which I have learned from the band La Bottine Souriante.
La Bottine Souriante is still playing one of the oldest bands in Quebec music, with a brass section.
Ten piece band, now I think they are eleven.
I've been part of the band for ten years.
That tune was, if we go back in the year, one of my first tunes I have learned from that band.
[F] It's an A key tune, lots of fiddlers [Gm] at home will play the tune cross-tuned.
Codding cross-tuned, E, [F#] A, E, A.
So, that's the tuning we're going to use there.
Some players will use the lower one, so the D, G.
But it's mostly the A, E, [A] A, E cross-tuned fiddling.
Let's go on to the first part of that tune.
[D] [A]
[E] [N] As you can hear, I'm putting some bowing there.
Remembering to have seen a few videos of Louis Pitu Boudreau.
He was putting a really nervous, not relaxed, really energetic and dynamic.
Also, when he was playing, the bow was always sticking on the fiddle, with the bridge really straight.
And he was like that, tapping the feet in four.
[F#m] [E] [D]
[G] [A] [N]
