[A] [E] [Ab] Hey, it's [Cm] James here from good guitarist calm and welcome to another episode of five-minute guitar lessons today
We're gonna show you the [G] electric guitar riff from [Bb] simple man by Leonard Skinner
Now the original recording is tuned [Am] a half step down, but this lesson is gonna be in standard tuning
We're not gonna bother tuning [C] our guitars down
The one problem with that is that it won't sound right if you play it with the original recording
Unless [F] you tune down your strings
So just keep [Fm] that in mind if you go to play along to the original recording on what [Ab] the heck
Anyways, um if you're interested in learning to play the [Bb] rhythm part
We have a lesson for that and you can find a link down below
Along with a link to our new ebook for strumming and rhythm guitar
Regardless of all that we'll start out by showing you the riff
[B]
[C] [G]
[A] so we'll learn that in four parts the first bit goes like this and
[C]
[B] That's pretty straightforward.
We start out with the fifth [C] string [A] open and
[Em] then [B] the second fret and
[Gb] Then [Ab] the third fret [C] and [Gb] I do those all [E] with down strokes
the second bit goes
[G] [A] And for that one, we have a bend here.
We want to bend it up and down so bend and release [Em] and
[Gm] Then we pull [C] off
to the third fret and
Then this part is important
If your finger is right on the tip you have to take it off to put it onto this next
Final note the [G] third fret of the low E string
But if [Eb] you have your finger [D] a bit higher
[C] Then you can [G] just roll it
to get [Gb] that last note and
[G] [C] That's really important because it helps keep the line nice and smooth.
It doesn't get like a little
[G]
[A] BAM that do you know keeps it nice and smooth?
The next part is very similar.
It starts out the same way
[C] So that's just bending the fifth fret up and down and then pull off to the [A] third
[C] But then after [A] we play this note
so this is the fifth fret of the low E and
[C] Then finally the last part we're on the sixth string [E] here and we just play it open
[G] Then we play the third fret
then we play [E] it open again and
Then we slide from the third to the fifth [A] and [Em]
[C] when you put that [N] all together, this is what you get
[C] [G] [C]
[A] [C] So the next step would be to practice this riff together
But I just want to mention that this melody starts before beat one.
So when I count it [Fm] in I'm gonna [Bb] go
one
two
One two three bar.
There you go.
You can hear the riff would start right after three
Well, let's just try it and you can always rewind the video if you don't get it the first time
