What is happening guys Jesse here again today, we're going to check out this bitchin lick in the key of E
It [N] goes like this
[Bb]
[Eb] [Gb] All [Gm] right, so the lick starts in the E minor pentatonic box that everybody [Ab] knows
That [N]
one so the first little
Run up the sort of up the scale is I use economy picking here in some parts.
So the first little phrase goes like this
[Ab] [G] That down stroke on the [Eb] 14th fret of the D string
Down [Ab] stroke on the 12th fret of the G
up stroke
[Ab] Then just alternate picking to the next part
[Bb]
[Ab] 12 14 on the G 12 15 on the B
[G] Then the next part uses some economy picking again, so
down stroke on the [Ab] 14th fret of the G
Down stroke on the 12th fret of the [Bb] B [C] hammer on to the 15th fret of the B
[B] up stroke on the top
of [N] the high E string
Then bending up the 15th fret on the B string to an E string
[Ab] So all together slowly that first little lick [Ebm] can be
[Ab] [Bb]
[Ab] Like so.
All right, so now starts the legato kind of section of the lick.
So the [G] idea with this section is
[Ebm]
[F] [Ab] 12 14 and 15th fret of
[A] The high E string the B string and the G string so it becomes kind of like a blues scale crossed with a Dorian scale
so it's kind of like a
[Bb]
[Ab] that sort of sound
[Eb]
[Ab] [Gb] [G]
[Ab] [Eb] Something like that, so [G] there's a few pick strokes and [Gbm] things added in there
[Bb] [G]
[N] So it's kind of hard to think of the which fret [G] numbers and strings and things I'm doing so I'll just play it slowly for
You guys and you should be able to pick it up, but it's it's all based around 15 14 12 fret on the [G] high E string
B string and G [Ab] strings
[Gbm] [Eb]
[G] [Gb] [Gbm]
[Bb] [G] [Gbm] The [Ab] second time is closer so
[Gbm] [Bb] [Ab]
[Gb] [B] So we're ending the lick [Eb] here [C] on the 14th fret which is the [Ab] root note the E note
[Gb]
[B] We're going back up on the G string 12 14
[Gbm] Bending [A] up the 14th fret of the G string and grabbing the 15th fret of the B.
That classic kind of bluesy sound
[Ab] Alright, so now we're onto the section that I like to think of as kind of like [G] a falling down the stairs sort of sound
Which is like a Steve Vai inspired thing.
So in this section [Bb] we're Starting to
[Gb] [A] Sliding down on the G string
We're just hitting [G] no particular note just up around the maybe the 15th fret 16th fret [Ab] hitting there sliding down to the 9th [Eb] fret
[Abm] To the 7th then [Ab] hammering on from nowhere on the D string 9th fret
And [Eb] then we're just repeating the same pattern here
[G] On the A and bottom E strings [Ab] on the 7th
[E] Going down to the G note here on the 3rd fret
[G] Then sliding back up to the root [Eb] note
And you [Gm] can pick each string as you change strings if you want I think [Gbm] [Eb]
[G] and then to top it all off
I just did a Nettie Van Halen style thing where I'm just tapping out the harmonics [F] on the A string
[Eb] And I'm just tapping [G] out the root note the 5th and the mega 3rd like that so that's [G] what 14 12 11th fret
Just tapping with my [N] right hand to get those harmonics
There you go guys, hope you enjoyed the lick hope you get some use out of that bad boy and
Yeah, drop me a comment thumbs up all that sort of YouTube [Ab] jazz and until next time
[G] rock on
[E]
