[F#] What's up guys, my name is Cal, and today I'm going to be teaching you how to play
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You on acoustic guitar by Led Zeppelin.
So the song [Am] starts off just an A minor chord, first finger on the first fret B, second and
[G#] third fingers on the second fret D [Am] and G.
[A] Sounds like that.
And the picking pattern for this is just going to start off on the A, and then walk all the
way up, skip the B, and hit the high E.
And [Am]
[A] then you walk up again, but instead of skipping the B this [Am] time, you end on the B.
So first time it skips the B and goes to the [F#] high E, second time it just [A] goes to the B.
[Am] [C]
Then you go to a C chord, except for take your third finger [G] and place it on the third
fret low E string, and then your pinky goes to the [D] third fret B string.
So that's the [G] difference.
Sounds like that, but you're just going to be picking it, and it starts on the low E,
goes to the D, so ends on the B, and then you walk it up again.
[C] And this time you take your pinky off and you hit the B with your first finger on the
first fret B.
So, [G]
[C] [G] all together we have this [A] so far.
[G]
[F#] And then you go to [D] this shape, which is first [E] finger on the first fret B string, second
finger on the third fret, or sorry, the second [F#] fret low E, your third finger on [A] the second
fret G, and your pinky on the third fret [D] B.
[G#] And again, starts on the low E, skips the A and goes to the D, [D]
and then you take your
pinky off, similar to that last one.
[A] [G]
[D]
[C] [F] And [C] then this one, you take your thumb and grab the first fret on the low [F] E, and then
you go to a C shape, except for take your second and third fingers and move it to [C] the
string right below [G] it, or above it, depending on how you look at it.
So first finger is on the first fret B, [A] second finger on the second fret G, third finger
on the third fret D.
So all together, the whole riff, [C] [G]
[D]
[E] [A] and then it starts over again.
Except for this time, it goes [E] exactly the same, this time we're just adding our pinky
on this first [C] one, on the third fret [A] high E.
And then we hit the open E.
[G] Same with the next chord formation.
[F#] [D]
And then the next one is the [F] same, [E]
and then the same.
So really it's just those first two that change with your pinky [G] on the third fret high E and then off.
After that [Am] it goes, which is just that A minor chord.
[E] And then, same formation, except for this time, you go with your first finger on the
eighth fret, and second and third on the ninth fret.
[Dm] And then move that down to your first fingers on the sixth [E] fret, third and fourth on the seventh.
[Dm] [Am]
[Dm] [Am]
[Dm] [Am]
[Dm] [A] Then back into the riff.
Okay, so the last section you have to learn to complete the song is this one.
It's very simple, it's basically the same chords we were doing earlier, except for this
time you're just strumming [G] them in a different pattern.
So it sounds like [Am] this.
[C]
[D] [E]
[Am] So it starts off with that A minor, and it just goes,
[A] then it [C] goes to the C chord shape,
except for your pinky is now on the third fret high E.
[D] And then this one, which is the same thing except this time your pinky is on the second
fret high E.
[A] Then you just go to an F power [F] chord,
[E] and then just an E major.
[Am] And then back into it.
So the whole thing, [C]
[D] [E]
[Am] [C]
[D] [E]
[A] [E] and then back into that riff.
And those chords, it changes pretty fast there, but you should be able to get it after a little
bit of practice.
