_ _ I consider myself [E] an [N] exponent of the Awana hula.
When I was young, it was [G] the hula [E] studio, the hula teachers, and the students
that there came this woman called Maiki [Em] Aiu, who was in love with the hula and wanted to do it right.
And a lot of the kahiko had gone underground.
So [E] on the island of Oahu, she went out into the forest,
and she found the [G] elders, the kupuna, [A] that taught the hula.
And she said, teach me, [F] [D] teach me the right way, [N] teach me everything. _
_ And she came back with the halau, the kumu hulas, and the haumana.
She said, teach me how to teach men.
_ We didn't know how to teach men, so we had a lot of mahus doing the hula.
_ So she came back, and a lot of the famous kumu hulas today,
Robert Casamaro, Hofu _ _ Widenmire, and all those guys, they were from Maiki Aiu.
And I had the good fortune of taking care of her for some time.
In fact, the first hula that I learned, she also taught beamer method,
which means it's a rolling of the feet.
The majority of the hula dancers do step, together, step, step, together, step,
but you only in the front, roll the feet.
Like this.
So I loved Maiki, she was somebody very special.
But I was before all the kahiko came back, so I'm telling you this,
because this next song is called, Lay of Stars.
And it's a very beautiful awana or hapahole song.
Lay of Stars. _ _ _ _ _ _
