[F] [A]
[Gb] [D] Well, there was a [Bb] sort of coffee [G] house circuit in Toronto in the mid [C] to late 60s, and [F] on
that circuit I sort of saw him a few times.
[C] And then one evening, [F] he was on stage and
he took out a [A] tomato [D] and a white cloth and put it on the stool next to him, [G] put a mic
on it, and said, this is my [C] accompanist.
And [F] afterward, he [C] offered me some of the tomato.
[F] And we became friends over that.

[A] When you spend six nights in a row [E] with people, [Em] you get [D] some insight, because it was always
my job, as almost a hostess in a way, [G] to make sure that they had everything they wanted,
and to make them feel comfortable and to [Cm] understand them.
[D] [C] And there was no understanding Leon
[F] Redbone other than he wanted to do his job, and [Gbm] there was [Db]
nothing more or [D] less than that,
I should say.

[C] [F] [Bm] [F] We used to play billiards.
He is a very good, I assume still a very, very good billiards
player, and [G] we'd go to Q Billiards, which was at Young and Bloor, where the subway walk
down [B] is, and they knew him [D] as Sonny, or Mr.
Charles, I think, either one, but Sonny they
[Ab] mainly called him, and different identities in [Fm] different parts of Toronto.
And he had
a game he [Ab] invented called Bombay Roulette.
I accidentally won once, and I didn't know
how, and I always forgot how it worked, but he would tell me what to do next.
So I'd just,
you know, [Fm] he'd say, you know, just shoot any ball you can or whatever, and I'd try, but
[G] he was [C] very good.

gone or why or how [Cm] he'd even [B] left, but suddenly he wasn't there anymore.
