Lesson 6, Coordinating the Bass Drum and Snare Drum, based on Poor Tom.
[C]
[Bb]
Here you can hear the bass drum coordinating a pattern that may or may not sound difficult to you,
but this leads to good practice and coordination.
The snare is simply doing single strokes with two accents.
More on [N] that later.
Here is the pattern that you will be playing on the bass drum.
Let's do it a little bit slower.
Keep steady eighth notes on the hi-hat for now.
We're using the eighth notes on the hi-hat to illustrate where the bass drum goes.
The hi-hat actually plays quarter notes on the ands.
1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.
[F] As [Ab] mentioned, the hands are doing single strokes with [Bb]
[Fm]
two [D] accents.
[Bb]
1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and [Fm]
1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.
[F]
[C]
It may sound tricky at first, but you get the hang of it.
This is an excellent coordination exercise.
When you [N] feel comfortable, you can incorporate beats using this pattern on the foot.
[Ebm] As you can hear, it works quite well.
[C]
Here's another little beat that you can incorporate that same pattern back to the original.
[E]
They don't split yet.
Here's a little more for your entertainment pleasure.
