_ _ _ [N] _ _ Ok, now I'm going to explain a little bit about the different parts of this solo and
how it's put together so you can play it yourselves.
_ First I'm going to tell you what the chords are.
It's a D over a F sharp, a G and an A.
It goes like this.
[D] _ _ [G] _ _ _ [A] _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ [G] _ _ [A] _ _
[N] _ _ I normally start my solos with trying to build something from a melodic part.
_ The idea for this is [Ab] basically a vocal melody.
It goes like this.
[B] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [N] _ _ _
As you can see here, this is a D chord.
[D] _ _
[G] And since all these three chords [Ab] belong to the key of D major.
_ _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ [Bm] _ _ [G] _ _ [B] _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
[E] So far this is what we got.
[D] _ _ [B] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
Now what you just saw is [F] an example of tension and release, [E]
which is a [G] classical term.
[N] _ _ I'm trying to build some tension into a very melodic part.
I'm using the fast runs, well a little bit to show off, _ to be frank, but also to grab
the listeners attention for an intense melodic part.
And both those two runs _ serve that purpose.
Now we're going to a different part of the solo which is also a tension and release thing.
It's the never ending bend, which is an example of how you can make something very simple exciting.
_ [B] _ _ _ _
_ [Db] _ _ _ _ _ _ [E] _
_ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ [Abm] Now I'm going to break down the last lick for you here.
It's kind of fast, I [B] can show it to you slowly once. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [N] Okay this last lick is an E minor scale and this is a different form of expressing the
tension and release.
It's _ right after this lick the chorus will come up and that's actually the release.
And it's also different, I'm basically just spacing out, doing something really wild.
It consists of small different legato pads and licks that I've been playing for years
and it's a combination of all those.
This is the way it goes.
[B] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ [G] _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ [N] _
