Well, Kiara is a_
I know Zane Lowe had put us together.
He sent me a message and said, have you heard about her?
I said, yeah, I like that song.
And he goes, well, I had her on my show and I interviewed her and asked her who her favorite
band or artist is.
And she said, Linkin Park.
I remember I heard her track Gold.
And my kids already knew the whole_
My girls were already trying to sing the chorus.
So they're just like_
Their little version of it.
And they do this like_

[Em] _ _ [N] So on this album, for the first time, we kind of opened the door and let other people come
in the studio.
And we thought if it doesn't work, we just go back to the way we're doing it.
But it turned out we worked with a couple of people that we really liked.
Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels.
And when we sat with them, it was me and Chester and Brad from our band,
and then Julia and Justin.
And I remember we came in, you came in, everyone was like, oh, so how's your day going?
Whatever.
And he goes, it's all fine.
And then a few minutes later, he's like, you know what?
I'm not fine.
Let me tell you what's going on in my life.
And he's just like_
Then it was like, Brad would be like, dude, yeah, you know, like, this is what I'm dealing with.
And that was the type of conversation that started off most of these sessions. _

Sometimes I find myself getting into these patterns of thinking.
Sometimes I find myself getting into these behaviors that I have.
Like I do all this stuff to try not to do it, and I find myself just doing them again.
Sometimes some of our songs are really logical or they're logic based where you go, you know,
what I'm singing about is supposed to make sense to you.
And for me, the comfort in the panic line is one of those really like,
it doesn't necessarily make a ton of sense, but it feels right.
It's not like you enjoy it so much or that you become addicted to it.
It's just familiar. _ _ _ _ _ _

_ _ I know people are really used to me kind of just coming out and being like,
you know, and like really intense, like all the time.
Like crawling, for example, like the verses on that, I think were probably the closest
thing to being like what I did for this song.
And I wanted to feel defeated and contemplative.
When it gets to the chorus,
I'm holding on.
Like that's already going to feel pretty big.
But after you come out of that, such a small and vulnerable place of lyrics and performance
that really taps into that emotion, like it just feels like, boom.
There's so many moments of optimism on the record.
Like on this song, the idea that the optimism that lives in this song is more of a,
a hopeful, if I could just let go, I'd be set free.
It's out there for me.
I just have to figure out how to get there in some way. _ _

_ This song is about ego.
When it all comes boils down to the dirty, nasty truth of it all is
the thing that gets all of us caught up is our projected self-image.
That's the epitome of like self-loathing as well as like, but there's, and like,
there's nothing you can like, and like rubbing it in someone's face at the same time.
You know, like, it's like, I know I'm not the center of the universe, but you keep spinning around.
And it's like, it's like, you can't help it.
It's like, but yeah.
And that's like, and, and, and like, and for me, like, that's like the addict and the
codependent, that's the per that's the person addicted to the thing.
And that's the person who's addicted to the person who's addicted to the thing.
And like getting really esoteric.
No, for real.
But this is like, this is like science.
This is like what that shit [Em] means to me.
