[N] on one of our shows in [C] 1995.
Well, he also shared some secrets [B] about his past with us,
like the fact [F#] that his earliest musical [G#] influences included
some classic country music.
Will [C#m] the circle be unbroken?
By [C#] and by, Lord, by and by.
[C#m] There's a banner home away, [C#] yeah, in the sky, Lord,
in the sky.
Of [A#] course, Little [G] Richard is best
known [A#] as a founding father of rock and roll.
[G#] He even claims he gave the Beatles their first break.
I used to listen to Bill [C#] Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys
many years back.
And I've always loved country music.
[Bm] Most people in the South love country music
because [D] the messages, it's so real, so true.
[A] And so [G] when I was traveling, it was me and the Everly brothers
[C#m] was traveling overseas [C#] and Bo Diddley and all of us.
And I ran into these four [F#] guys that had these things.
And their [C#] manager said, Little Richard,
I want you to meet my singers.
[A#] They never made nobody famous before.
[C#] They had never recorded.
Didn't nobody know them but their mama at the [Gm] time.
So I say, well, [E] I don't mind them singing,
[B] but they wanted to sing Good God, Let Me Smile.
I said, they can't sing that.
[F] Then I won't have nothing to [A] sing.
And so what happened was [D] I took them with me to Hamburg,
[C] Germany to the Star Club.
[C#] And Mick Jagger was sleeping on the floor.
He was [G] just a Rolling Stones.
[C#m] Jimi Hendrix was my guitar player.
[Dm] He was 18 years old.
His [G] name was Maurice James [D] at the time.
And [C] James Brown was singing [Dm] lead for us, the vocals.
[C#m] But we didn't know any of these people was [E] going to be famous.
[G] You know, I didn't know that.
I did [A] not know they was going to be big stars.
[A#] And it just was a good feeling.
And so when I go to these affairs like the Hall of Fame
and meet all [D] these big stars, [C] I feel good [C#] seeing a lot
of people that was influenced by me like Bob [C#m] Dylan,
and which [F] admits that, Elton John, [D] and [C#] all these folk.
It just make me scream.
[C] And this is a man who knows how to [A] scream.
Whee!
[C#]
[F#]
[D] Shut up.
Hey, Little Richard has had continued success
over the years, and not too long ago,
he cut an album for [C] kids with songs like Itsy [A] Bitsy Spider.
It sold over eight million copies.
Well, you [B] know, he was one of the very first people
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
And there is no doubt at all why.
He [F#] is quite [D] the showman.
