[A] [D] [A]
[D] [A] [D] [A]
[Dm] [A] Yeah, [B] but Leon was, [D] because that's how we got together, because Ferra heard me [A] playing
and I was playing, you know, it was all grand, acoustic grand piano.
But then sometimes you [D] wanted more sound, you got ten fingers, but [N] you hear something
else, so then you try to do something else, but you're not banging, you're just getting more [A] sound.
And Ferra was doing, he could sound like, which you shouldn't be able to do, [D] but he
could sound like he was playing more than one [D] note on his saxophone.
And then we heard Leon yodeling, he said, what [A] in the world?
And for some reason, [Dm] when [A] all three got together, it was a perfect fit.
I mean, you didn't have to rehearse or nothing.
And that spoils you, because now people rehearse [Dm]
the whole year and don't come up with nothing.
But [F#] I said, God, they wouldn't.
And then for music, you gotta ask me too many questions, we got a problem.
But back then, you just played, and your [D] souls just hooked up and became one.
So that was great.
It worked [C#] things out, didn't it?
Yeah.
So yeah, that's [Dm] what you're always looking for.
Just like, [F#] for a while I stopped, and then some of the drummers, the young drummer I
had, Lee Pearson, [D] I think I met him, he was about 20-something.
[A] I started playing, and he said, I know, this boy starts playing, and I said, what?
And you know, I'm playing and he's [B] all up inside of me.
I said, what?
I said, oh, you want to play some music, huh?
I said, okay, all right then.
So then he started, I didn't realize there were still that many young musicians out there.
There's a whole lot of them that can really play, and they're not even working.
And he started introducing me to them, I said, okay, then well, I said, well let's go play then.
[A] He's a great drummer, I saw him, I saw what he was [A#] doing.
He's got some abilities.
That's it, [D] that's what you want.
You want that, I mean, he's [A] just natural.
[N] And actually, he met Max when he, you know, Max showed him some things, Max Rose, and
he's definitely started [B] the history of the music.
And so, because that's the main reason why you play, so that [N] when you get those moments
and you start playing, something happens.
I don't know what happens.
You know, because like we say, like, when you're playing, I tell people, when you're
playing and you don't know what you're doing, I mean, you're really playing then.
I mean, so you wait for those moments and, boy, when they happen, [B] that's when everything's worthwhile.
Yeah, because I remember people used to tell us, when Carl and Leon, we were together,
and those moments happened, they [D] said, well, I know we did a concert at Temple University,
they said, [A]
y'all levitated.
I said, oh, okay, I wish y'all had filmed this some kind of way.
[C#] [A] But, [E] you know, on [D] them things.
