Hi, and welcome to online lesson videos calm.
I'm Ian Walsh
For this fiddle lesson today.
We're going to work on a tune called lost Indian
There's a lot of different versions of this one out there
The version I'm going to teach and play for you today was inspired by Kenny Baker's version this has two parts
It's in the key of D, and we're going to learn it, and I'm going to play it for you in standard tuning

[Ab] Okay to get started with this tune
Let's take a look at some root double stops that we can play for the key of D
The first one's going to be over the G and the D string here.
It is
This is an a note on the G.
That's your [A] first finger
And then an open D now it's a little hidden [G] in this shot, but
[Eb] You have to get your finger completely over that D string keeping it clear of it
So you can let it ring out play [D] these two notes together a and D
Then you can [Ab] check that by your middle two strings a [D] and D
Two double stops that you want to be [Eb] very familiar with for this tune
So we're starting off this tune with two pickup notes and that low a right where we just were on the G string is our
First note two eighth notes here a and B
[Bm]
And then we have a downbeat follow these notes along with me after I play them
[D] [E] [Bm]
[D]
That's a D [D] quarter note and then we're in eighth notes D F E D B A
[E] [Gbm] With the pickup notes, it sounds like this one two three
[D]
[E] [Bm] [G] one two [D] three
[Bm]
[D] [Eb] Okay.
So once you've cycled through that and you're pretty
You're pretty familiar with it and you're playing it very easily without thinking about it
Let's add in some double stopping whenever you're on the a string.
Let's blend [D] with the open a
That so if we just add to this blended double stop and then when we get to our note on the G string
Which is a B.
We're gonna blend our D and our G
Ending on that root double stop
One two three
One two three
One two three
Okay, we continue on from there
[G] [Bm]
That's [Gb] D F E D B G a [Bb] B
[Bm]
[D] [G] [Gbm]
Okay, and again, we're gonna blend our notes here
[D]
[G] [D] And that D is going to be the [Ab] downbeat and the root note for our next little section here one together one two three
[D]
[G] [Gbm] one two [D] three
[G] [D] one two three
[G] [D] Okay, so that's it for notes now we're gonna in the next section continue on with this first part
Remember you don't always have to double stop [Gb] it depends on the player
I like to try to start this tune a little cleaner and then as I play through it a couple more times add in more
Double stopping.
All right on to the next section
