Either before or after that we [N] recorded 7 and 7 is which was a standalone track.
Well 7 and 7 is and a message to pretty.
I used to call my girlfriend when I was 16 years old 15
years old pretty.
So this is a message to pretty and 7 and 7 is she's born on the 7th Anita Billings
she's born on the 7th of March and I was born on the 7th of March so I thought it was a perfect
match.
I produced that one and I went into the studio and it was [G] [A] mayhem.
[C] [G] [D]
[F] [C]
[Em] It was difficult to
record it was [A] difficult to listen to in the studio [E] and it was blessedly short.
[G] [D] [A]
[E]
[G] [D] [A]
[Em]
[G] [D] [A]
[Em]
[G] [E]
[Am] [C]
[G] We did over [D] 40 takes on this thing.
[F]
[C] [Em] The drummer Snoopy [A] Fisterer [E]
wasn't really up to the job all the time.
7 and 7 is?
It was a bitch actually.
I don't know if you I think it's written on all the [G] sleeves actually
that took me I don't know how many [A] takes to get it down.
He [Em] and Arthur would alternate because
this [D] was a non [E]-stop rat-a-tat-tat almost [C] menacing burst [G] of rhythmic energy.
[A] It looked like I wasn't going to be able to do it actually [C] [G] and so he tried it [D] but he couldn't do it
[F] as much as [Em] he thinks he's a drummer he couldn't do it any any better.
I played it but yeah [A] it took me a few few takes.
One, two, three, [E] four.
Normally the sound is [F] kind of an afterthought [A] the sound was the [G] medium that you know was
[E] driving the show [F] and that was what was so hard [C] to get across to those [G] guys is
it has to [E] sound like this [C] otherwise [G] it will be a [Em] different song.
Basically [C]
it [G] was [C] hard
and yet it was the best [Em] sounding single they ever had.
[C] I'm very proud of it now [A] but I must tell you
[Gb] I hadn't [Eb] lost any of [G] my hearing until that day I came out of that [Eb] studio somewhat [C] worn down.
It took so long to [A] get them to do that song right and it [C] shouldn't have because it's not a
difficult song [Ab] it's just a
[E] [F] chaotic song.
That song blew my mind I couldn't believe it [Gb] you know
because I had a background in classical music and when I heard 7 to 7 that's what I heard.
I heard great classical writing it was powerful and it was something [G]
unique.
