[Bm] Hi, I'm Doug Young, a contributing editor to Acoustic Guitar, and today I'd like to
take a look at a classic design from Loudon Guitars, the 022.
The 022 is a large body guitar whose design dates back from the mid-1970s when George
Loudon first began building.
And in fact, this guitar is very close to the instrument that Piervin Cezanne played for decades.
So let's take a very quick look at the guitar, close up, and then we'll listen to it some more.
The 022 is a jumbo guitar with a cedar top and mahogany back and sides.
The guitar measures 16 and 17 32nds inches wide at the lower bout, and it's [N] almost 5
inches deep, 25 millimeters.
The scale length is 650 millimeters, which is just slightly longer than the typical 25.5 inches.
The guitar has a satin finish, which gives it a very organic look and feel.
The guitar has a five-piece mahogany and maple neck that creates a very stable and stiff
feel, which is terrific for alternate tunings.
Like all Loudons, the guitar has a pinless bridge and a split saddle, and both the saddle
and nut are bone.
The basic 022 has a list price of $4,575, and in this model, there's an addition of
$595 to the cutaway.
So this guitar has a total list price of $5170.
All Loudons have a distinctive tone, due in part to some unique construction features,
[E] including what Loudon calls dolphin bracing.
[G] Rather than try to describe the sound, though, let's just listen to the guitar a little bit.

The 022 is a fantastic fingerstyle guitar, but with its big sound, extremely high volume,
it would make a terrific flat-picking guitar or a rhythm guitar.
Let's listen to how it sounds strummed.

for a change of pace, let's listen to acoustic guitarist Ted Gerken playing this same guitar.
