[A] [B] [E]
Miss Megastar, the bloody charming Lush are here in the studio.
We'll be having words a few minutes from now,
as well as something worth staying up for, a world premiere video.
[Eb]
Welcome back to 120 Minutes.
Two members of Lush are [F] here, Mickey Bereni, singer [Bb] and guitarist,
and Phil King, the new bassist.
Phil, how did you [E] hook up with Lush?
[Bb] I just met [G] them in a pub in London.
[Ab] Yeah, and how did the conversation start?
It started with, would you like a pint?
And it progressed to about another five, and then it was like, you're in.
Well, how come you parted ways with your last bassist?
Steve, um, cos he wants to move to [A] Dublin, write a book, and settle down,
and probably have, like, a huge [Bb] family eventually.
I think
So [Gb] it was personal rather than [Eb] musical differences in this case.
Oh, yeah.
[Gb] Phil, you play in the Phelps, right?
Yes, we have.
Is this a big change for you, being part of Lush?
Or do you see some
He gets more views.
A lot more drinking, I think.
[E]
Well, you have Spooky, I suppose, as, like, your first real album,
cos Galo has got a compilation of some earlier EPs.
And you've got Robin Guthrie, the cocktail twin, to produce again.
So is he going to be your permanent producer now?
Why do you like working with him?
Cos he knows all the good Indian restaurants in London,
so we thought we'd use him again.
But we won't do again cos he took us to a really crappy one.
Oh, so now he's fired?
Yeah.
Well, at least you've got your priorities straight.
Yeah, yeah.
Let's take a look at the first video.
This is For Love, first video from Spooky.
This is Lush, more coming up with Mickey and Phil.
[C] [E]
[C] [B] [E]
[C] [Em] [N]
For Love from Lush.
Mickey, were you happy with the way that came out?
What, the song?
The video.
The video?
Yeah, I suppose so.
The one we just saw.
Right.
Yeah, yeah.
I don't know much about videos, but yeah, I'm sure it's all right.
How do you feel when you look at yourself on camera?
Pretty [Bb] crap.
Yeah?
It's like looking in the mirror, isn't it?
It's a nightmare.
It's all right.
We want it to look like Bono in it, but never mind.
That's why we got him to do it, cos he did the fly video,
but I didn't have the shades for it, unfortunately.
Oh, you mean John Cline, the director?
Yeah.
He shot that, yeah.
All right, well, that is actually technically the second video
from the first proper Lush album, Spooky,
and we'll be talking more with Lush in the second 60 of [F] 120 Minutes.

Mickey, you wrote [F] For Love,
and you don't collaborate on your songs at all?
No, no.
Emma writes her songs, I write my songs.
The boys do what they're told.
[Ab] That's it.
Which is the way it should [F] be.
Exactly, exactly.
So you basically write a song and then take the finished product to Emma?
Pretty much, yeah.
Well, it seems to work, [E] cos Spooky is, again, number one on [N] the alternative chart.
Does this feel like you're finally breaking through into the big time?
Um
Phil, you say something.
We shall see.
I get embarrassed by questions like that, so
[Eb] Why, cos you're not sure whether you want that, or
Well, that's really not what you're doing, what you're trying to do.
Um, I don't really know.
I don't [A] think
Is it breaking through to the big time?
I don't think it's breaking through to the big time,
so you're right-side afraid or something.
That's our real ambition.
I'm going to shave all my hair off tomorrow.
We're fishnets.
[B]
Are we going to see you on tour any time soon, in fishnets or [Bb] anything else?
Yeah, [B] we're on tour starting [F] on Friday, I think. In Milwaukee.
And then it's till [G] late April.
We can re-enact episodes of Happy Dinosaur on stage.
OK, well, some chances for [Abm] you to catch Lush,
and [F] right now here's a video [Bb] of Gala, the first Lush compilation album.
This is Deluxe, version two.
Thanks for coming by.
Yeah.
