Start Jamming...
It's my job.
I play every show that we play, but in this particular context
I asked Pete Mayer from the Coral Reefer Band, my guitar buddy, to write a chart and Pete wrote this beautiful
opening piece that
didn't come from my head, but it's gorgeous.
It came from the head of one of my favorite people on earth and he knows this song
because we've played it together so many years.
So to have him
add his heart onto the front of mine
really meant a lot.
I can't play his opening piece on the guitar, but I'll give you the part that I know.
This is just my job.

In the middle [F] of late last night.
I [Eb] was sitting on a curb
[Bb]
Didn't [Fm] know what about but I [Bb] was feeling quite disturbed
[F] [G]
Street [F] sweeper came whistling by he was bouncing [C] every step
It [D] seemed strange how good [Dm] he felt
So [Bb] I asked him why they [C] swept he [Fm] said it's my job
[C] To [Gm] be cleaning up this mess.
[Am] [Bb] That's enough [F] reason to [C] go for me.
It's [Fm] my job
[Bb] To [Gm] be better than the [F] best and that makes the day for me
[Gm]
Got an uncle [F] that owns a bank.
[Eb] He's a self-made millionaire
[Bb]
Never had [F] anyone to thank never had no one to care
[G]
Always seemed kind [F] of sad to me and [Eb] I asked him why that [C] was and he told me it's
[B] because [C] in my contract there's this clause
[Fm] Says it's my job
[C] To [Gm] be worried half to death.
[F] That's the [Bb] thing people respect in me.
[Fm] It's my job
[C] But [Gm] without it, I'd be less [Am] than what [F] I expect from me
[Bb] [Am] [Bb] [Am]
[Bb] [F] [Gm]
I've been lazy [F] most all my life [Ab] writing songs and sleeping late
[Bb]
And any manual [Fm] labor I've done [F] was purely by [G] mistake
Street sweepers [F] can smile then I've [Eb] got no right to feel [C] upset
But sometimes I still [Dm] forget
Till [Gm] the lights go on [C] and the stage is set [Gm] and the song [F] it's home.
[Bb] You feel [F] like sweat.
It's [Fm] my job
[Bb] To be different [Gm] than the rest.
[Bb] That's enough [F] reason to [Bb] go for me.
[Fm] It's my job
[C] To [Gm] be better than the [F] best and that's a tough break for me
It's my [Bb] job
To be cleaning [Gm] up this [Am] mess.
That's enough [F] reason to go for me.
