[C#m] [E]
[D] [A] [G]
[Am] [E] [A] Welcome [D] in to Larry's Country Diner.
So good to have [G#] all you folks here and you folks [F#] watching.
We're glad [E] you're here.
We're going to have a great show.
You know, during the pandemic, [A]
everybody was stockpiling toilet paper, [E] but not this guy.
He [D] [A] stockpiled [G#] red [G] dishrags.
Yeah, don't [A] want to run out.
Here's Larry.
See, right [D] there.
I did it.
[A] Had to wash it every time I used [G#m] it.
That's right.
Don't want to run out.
You realize [Em] that right here, right now in this [G#] facility.
I [N] told you he stockpiled it.
Yeah, right there.
Right here, right now in this facility, we have the mayor of Moreh County.
Really?
Right there, Andy Odom.
Well, how about that?
[D] Hey, listen, I got a parking [A#] ticket this morning.
If you help me [N] out, I'll call you.
Call me.
Call me.
Call me.
Andy was one of the ones that I saw on news.
There's say, open it up for [G] business.
Uh-huh.
Tired of all this shutting [F] down stuff, man.
I applaud you.
Good man.
All right.
Don't lick my finger.
What?
Don't lick your finger in front of him.
[D] Larry.
Father God, I am so thankful to be one of your children.
May I always bring glory to your name.
Now, that's not a scripture.
Oh, scripture's on the other side.
It says, Revelations 21.1.7.
Revelations.
I didn't think you liked Revelations.
Are we living in the time of Revelations or what?
He that overcometh shall inherit all things and I will be his God and he shall be my son.
I'll take that.
I like that.
I like that.
Let's get, [C] [F] there he goes.
It closes.
All right.
Hey, we have Mac McAnally with us.
Oh, one of [D] my favorites.
Absolutely my favorite.
[B] [F] He's a lot of people's favorite.
Oh.
Tim, Tim right back here.
Tim Atwood and Roxanne.
When Tim knew that Mac was going to be on the show, he said, I want to come.
Yeah.
Oh, we were back there before the show swapping Mac McAnally lyrics.
We know all of them.
Yeah.
Tim is a marvelous piano [G] player and performer himself.
I've got about six carloads of fans, but they're real [N] serious.
And four of them are here apparently.
That's good.
Yeah.
Let's, let's just start off with a song.
[E] Heck yes.
Can we do that?
Sure.
I don't see why not.
This, this was written on a Christmas morning.
I was, [G] I was sitting awake thinking about my children and how, how much I love family
and my family back in Mississippi as it going backward and my kids going forward.
And I got a nice clear picture of the family and I wrote this song.
It just fell out of my mouth.
Pretty easy to write.
Sat on one of my unintentional collector's item CDs for about 20 years.
I got a telephone call from my buddy Kenny Chesney and I'm just name dropping right at
the top of the show.
[G#] If that's okay.
Go for it.
I appreciate the privilege.
And Kenny says, what are you doing [N] tomorrow?
And I said, well, nothing.
Cause I'm honest like that.
And he said, can you come over to the studio?
And I said, yes, sir, I can.
What are we going to do?
And Kenny said, we're going to cut one of your songs and I don't care which one.
Wow.
And I've been a songwriter for a long time and nobody ever said that to me.
And that's pretty special.
So I go over to the studio the next day and Kenny says, what do you want to sing, Mac?
I know a whole bunch of your songs.
And I said, it don't matter to me, Kenny.
I know a whole bunch of my songs too.
He said, well, I don't have any children yet, but if and when I do, I would love to tell
my kids what you said to your kids in that song down the road.
Let's do that.
And you sing the second verse and we'll make it a duet and see how that goes.
We played it about three times in the studio.
45 minutes later, it was just me and him and Eric Dark and just no big band, no production.
And I'm backing out an hour later thinking to myself, you know, that sounded pretty good.
I think if it didn't have me on it, it might be a hit.
So you want Tim and I to sing with you?
Yeah, just chime right in.
But it turns out I underestimated the star power of Kenny.
He was able to drag me all the way up the charts, kind of like an ankle weight or something.
We had a number one and we got a Grammy nomination.
All kinds of good things came from it.
But my favorite thing about this song is still what it felt like Christmas [G#m] morning, right
before the sun [G] came up, thinking about my family [E] and knowing exactly what that means.
It's called Down the Road.
[F#m] [E] [A]
[E]
[A] [B] [A]
[B] [A]
[E] [B] [E]
And I asked [A] her to [E] marry me.
[A] She said she [E] really wanted [A] to.
Down [B] the road.
[A]
See [G#m] what [E] life's gonna hold.
[B] Down the road.
[E] [C#m] Her mama wants [D#] to know am [A] I washed in the blood or just in [B] the water.
[C#] Her daddy [E] wants to know that I [A] make enough to take [E] his [B] daughter.
[A] [B] Down the road.
[A] Before he can let her go.
[B] Down the road.
[E]
[A] [B] [E]
[C#m] [B]
[E]
Now down the street from here, [A] there's an engineer with an only [E] son.
And our baby girl says [A] she believes that [E] he is the [B] only [A] one.
[B] Down the road.
[C#m] Her mama [D#] wants to know is he [A] washed in the blood or just in the [B] water.
[C#m] And I [E] want to know that he [A] makes enough to take my [B] daughter.
[A] [B] Down the road.
[A] When it comes [E] time to go.
[C#m]
Down the [B] road.
[E]
[A] [B] Down the road.
[A]
You know I [B] want to [E] help her go.
[B] Down the road.
[E] [A] Down down [B] down that [E] road.
Down down [B] down that [E] road.
[A] [B]
[E]
[B] [E] [F#]
[B] Woo!
Down the road!
Thank y'all [N] much.
Appreciate you being on that one.
