[Bm] [E]
Hi, I'm Earl Haggard and you're listening [D] to Google Music.
[A]
[D] [G]
[B] Working Man Blues on the new record.
There's an appearance of [B] Willie Nelson and an appearance of my youngest [D] son, Benny.
[F#]
He and his mother kept it away from me for a long time and only, like he was, he's 18 now,
and when he was 15 they let me hear him [F] and I was blown away with it.
I [F#] couldn't believe what I was hearing and he's [D#m] been on stage with me [Bm] ever since.
[D] The whole [E] world knows now.
Hand in hand, [A] arm in arm, walking down the street.
It's a joy to work with Chris because [D] he's got such an incredible mind
[F#] [Bm]
and [F#] we don't have to worry about [D]
each other, so to [Em] speak.
We can go on stage without [D] a [F] script and [B] pull it off.
That's kind of fun.
There again, Willie is a great person to know and to work with
because he has all the credibility and everything.
It's great to go to the stage with people [F#] like that.
I know they feel the same thing [B] about me.
[D#] Willie has a new record [F] coming out where his son [D] Luke is on [G] a record with him and I.
[E] We're the one down south to give him a hand.
[A] Wound up working at Opera Land.
[D] Look at me, working [G] at Tennessee.
We [E] both have cradled our children [C#] with our music.
[D] Look at me, working [F#] at [Em] Tennessee.
[E] You know,
[A] fortunately or unfortunately, we have probably written our [Bm] greatest material.
Our [E] greatest days are probably behind us.
[D] Love [A] is always pretty.
Going [Gm] back to my [G] hometown, which was Bakersfield and [D] Oildale and [F#] all that,
is [Bm]
somewhat of a letdown in a lot of ways.
It's just [B] gone to the [G] bad part [E] of town.
[C#] Where I used to live was the good part of town.
Now [G#m] it's in shambles and [D] it's not the good part of town anymore.
It doesn't really resemble what I [B] grew up in.
It was much [G] smaller.
[E] There wasn't any freeways.
There wasn't any interstates.
[F]
The [F#] pavement went to the edge [E] of [F] town.
The only place you can [G] grab that is in some good [E] movie that [G] presents it the way it was.
But [B] it's so different.
Somebody said that three years ago that as a society,
we would collectively learn as much as we did since we had discovered fire
in the up and coming three years.
Well, the three [E] years is over, so
[A#] we're quite a society [G] with our quickness.
[F#] All of that has [E] taken its toll on old [D] things like Oildale and Bakersfield.
Love is [F#] always pretty.
I [Bm] was astounded that I was [E] recognized by the people that you [D] mentioned
at [B] the Kennedy Arts Center Awards.
[A] [F#] Hobnob [B] and Elbow would hang around with [G] Oprah Winfrey [F] and the President [B] of the United States.
It was just overwhelming to find yourself in that company.
You've got to pinch yourself.
Is this really happening?
Did they really call my name?
[A] But it is.
It was [D] overwhelming.
[F#] My heroes [Bm] inspire me every night.
They come to me [F#] on stage when I [A] need something.
[Em] If I don't have [F#] something of my own [G#m] original [A] to present,
[B] I borrow [Bm] from one of my heroes.
[F#] Of course, [Bm] they're so old and everything,
and people don't know what I'm doing, and it [D] works.
