[D#m] I never wanted just to play beats, I always wanted to play the songs.
I think any good drummer plays music, he doesn't play beats.
You participate in the musical experience and anticipate the [N] chord changes,
anticipate the arrangements and set things up.
It's a logical progression that when you go through a song,
[Bm] people are prepared and that's your job to kind of set up these nuances
and the changes as the music progresses, you know, lead people into [D] the new space.
Danny [C] Carey, drummer of Tool, drummer of Volto.
What a beat basketball player.

The beauty of the mandalas is it knows from the center to the edge,
like where you're hitting it, and you can apply that parameter to whatever you want,
like be it panning, opening filters, pitch change, you know, it's up to your imagination.
It doesn't sound cheesy or it doesn't sound, it makes it sound much more natural
because even a real drum, as you hit it from the [Gm] center to the edge,
[Em] the pitch does change, like even slightly, [C#] it gets higher and higher as you go toward the rim
and you [F#] can program that in to these pads, like if I want to mimic a real drum,
I can do it that subtly, but the beauty is also you can just go crazy with it and make it really extreme.

[N] the greatest tool for me to have when writing because I can load in an infinite number of samples,
it's up to me, all I have to do is click a button and I have a whole new arsenal of sounds
for every song that I play and that's, when I play live, it's the same thing,
[C#] just with the click of a button, every tune to tune, I [N] have a different sound in every one of my seven pads.
To have that and not have to carry around all those instruments is just the greatest luxury ever.
The drums are, they can get pretty boring as a solo instrument,
but if you play the right things and support the music and play songs rather than beats,
it has infinite possibilities and can take people to [D#] other places.
