You know what, you know before you go too far, we have somebody, the next friend that I want to bring out is a friend of both of ours.
I know we both admire his writing a lot because you have one of his songs on your album.
I have been a disciple of Delbert McClinton for a long time.
Yes, and I have one of his songs on my album that we're going to do it.
Mr.
Delbert McClinton.
Thank you.
You know what, I have been so curious about this song.
I've sang it every night in concert for a while now and it's on the album.
I've been so curious.
Is there a story behind the song?
Yeah, well it pretty much speaks for itself.
We went to California from Texas, me and this girl I'd known since we were teenagers.
We went on and were leading our own lives.
She came to the club I was working one night and she had just gotten a divorce.
We kind of fell in love, you know.
We decided we'd take, she had a 66 Chrysler she got in the divorce settlement and a little bit of money.
I asked her if she wanted to accompany me to California.
She said she did.
Well, you know, I thought it would be good for both of us.
So we went to California and it took me a while to get a job.
She got a little tired of it and so she left me.
Well, it was okay because I wrote the song behind it, see.
It takes that sometime.
I don't really want to go through much more than to write songs, but I was a lot younger.
And so within 20 minutes of her leaving I wrote this [E] song.
[B] Well, it's a wonderful song and a wonderful story.
Let's do it.
Two more bottles [E] of wine.
[D] [E] [C#]
We [E]
came out [A] west together with a common [E] desire.

[E]
[A] [E] Well, the way she left, [A] she turned your head [E] around.
It seemed like overnight, it just stopped and [B] put me down.
Ain't [E] gonna let me today.
Cause [A] I've been working and I'm too tired anyway.
[E] And it's [A] alright cause it's midnight.
[B] Now that's two more bottles [E] of wine.
[A] I'm sixteen, I'm red now, I'm one of the people [E] I know.
I've been doing all I can, but opportunities sure come [B] slow.
I love [E] being a big star by today.
[A] But I've been sleeping in a warehouse in West L [Bm].A.
[E] And it's alright [A] cause it's midnight.
Now [B] that's two more bottles [Em] of [Bm] wine.
