[F] I was diagnosed in May of [Fm] 2006.
April 15th, tax day.
[F] That when you're diagnosed with cancer, everybody around you is diagnosed as well.
At that point you realize just how much someone means [Bb] to you.
All I wanted to do was to live to raise my children.
[F] She dropped the phone and burst into tears.
The doctor just confirmed her fears.
Her husband held it in and [F] held her tight.
Cancer don't discriminate or [C] care if you're just 38.
[Bb] But three kids need [C] you in their lives.
[Gm] He said, I know that [F] you're afraid and I [C] am too.
[Gm] But you'll never [F] be alone, I [C] promise you.
When [Bb] you're weak, I'll be strong.
When you let go, I'll hold on.
And when [F] you need to cry, I'll sweat it out and then I'll dry your eyes.
When you feel lost and scared to death, like you [Dm] can't take one more step,
[Gm] just take my [F] hand, together we [Bb] can do it.
[F]
But my husband was so supportive.
[Dm] He just looked at me and said, you know what, it's going to be okay.
And [Bb] there was my dad sitting on the little bench.
We've [F] always just been this team.
And he just said, I wanted to be with you.
My sister moved in with me.
Like tripping over my niece and my [Dm] sister.
It was wonderful to know that I had a support system.
They always [Bb] loved on me and never made me feel like a burden.
[F] She made it through [C] the surgery fine.
[F] They said they caught it just in time.
But they had to take more than they planned.
And now it's four smiles and baggy shirts to hide what the cancer took from her.
And she just wants to feel like a woman again.
[C] She [Gm] said, I don't think I [F] can do this [C] anymore.
[Gm] And he took her in [F] his arms and said, [Bb] that's what my love is.
[C] When [F] you're weak, I'll be strong.
When you let go, I'll hold on.
And when you need a cry, I swear that I'll be there to dry your eyes.
When you feel lost and scared to death, like you [Dm] can't take one more step,
[Gm] just take my hand, [F] together we can [Bb] do it.
[C] [F] [Bb] [F]
Seventeen years later, here [Dm] we are.
I'm lucky I have a family that is [F] incredibly supportive.
This was my safe haven.
It was like, you know, [Gm] God and angels right there with us.
I [Gm] appreciate all of my [F] caretakers that took so good care of me.
And that was you, Daddy.
[Bb] I love you.
[C] I love you.
When [Bb] it gets too long, I'll be [Dm] the rock you lean on.
[Gm] Just take my hand, [F] together we [Bb] can do it.
[D]
[F]
I'm going [Dm] to [Bb] win.
[F] You know people love you in your life, but you don't know how much until you get sick.
My wonderful set of friends that would rally around me at any given moment.
Just that people would give up their life and their time to stay with you.
Somebody loved me through this, and I'm going to love somebody else through it.
And that's what we have to do for one another.
I'm going to love you through it.
