What's up everybody, Marty Friedman here.
I'm in New York City.
My friends at Metal
Injection have brought me to Bar Bacon to show me that bacon is really rad.
Now, I never
really thought too much about [A] bacon.
I could pretty much live without it.
But these [Ab] guys
are so enthusiastic that I thought I'd give them [E] a try.
[A]
[Gb] [B]
[A] [Eb] Hey, this is Adam [Am] Pak.
I'm [Dm] here today as a special guest of Metal Injection because I
am [F] a bacon fan and I love [C] bacon and I am here to [G] convince Marty Friedman why bacon [Eb] is the
greatest food on the planet.
When I [D] read that Marty Friedman thought bacon was overrated
or he wasn't impressed by it, [Dm] it felt like it was my mission in life to teach him [F] that
he was [Eb] wrong and that bacon is awesome and it's something that we should all appreciate
just like we all appreciate his music.
[Dm] I love your enthusiasm.
[Gb] You're in New Almazad, [E] you're traveling the world, you're playing all over the place.
I'm sure you get to eat everything, any type of food there is on [G] the planet.
So let me
start off by [Gb] asking, what is your favorite type of cuisine?
My favorite food, if I had to choose one thing, would probably be sushi.
[G] Sushi, okay.
[B]
More New York pizza.
Is that [E] something that you can still find over in Japan?
[Eb] Sushi?
No, [E] of course the sushi, but New York style pizza.
No, [B] that's one thing.
Japan has everything under the [Db] sun, but they do [A] not have New York
[B] pizza.
[Ab] They don't have anything even [Gb] close.
Now let me ask you about my favorite [B] food, which is bacon.
You say you're [Bm] not really
impressed by it or you don't understand the big-
If I never had it, I wouldn't miss it.
Is [Abm] there any [Bm] reason?
A lot of American [Ab] people, I notice, just think if you put bacon on anything, [Gb] it's just like
the world opens up.
To me, it's just another thing if it was there, if it wasn't.
Bacon
in Japan is different from bacon here, I noticed.
It's like a lot thicker.
It doesn't have that
kind of crispy bacon that [E] we grew up with here.
[Db] And that too, it's just another [B] option
of meat, but I don't really [D] get the all of a sudden put bacon on it and it's [Bb] fantastic.
Hey guys, you know what you want [Am] to eat?
Hello, [Gm] yes, yes, yes.
So at Bar [Eb] Bacon, one of the things that they have here is [Bb] the tasting,
which is four different kinds of bacon.
Can you- what are the four this [Gm] week?
Okay, so it's jalapeno, corn [Eb] cob, roasted, maple smoked, and [Bb] can with toast.
[Eb] Oh, jalapeno, bring it on.
Marty will be ordering some more for me later.
We'll see what happens.
Yes, okay, I'll get [D] that started for you guys.
Thank you.
[Dm] Wall of sound.
This is probably what, [G] 25th, 30th album that [Eb] you've recorded?
13th.
Well, your 13th [Bb] solo.
Yeah.
But-
I can't even count everything else.
Right.
Yeah, it takes a-
[D] What is it [Eb] that keeps you going?
What motivates you [Bb] to put out another record?
Bacon, dude.
[Dm] Okay, I know that's not [Gm] true, but-
It's not true, but I don't know, because [Eb] by nature, I'm a [Bbm] lazy bastard.
I really am.
But
when it comes to making music, [G] all of a sudden I get crazy [Eb] motivated, like the ultimate,
[Bb] perfectionist workaholic.
[F] It's really a disease [Gm] until that record gets done.
Do you [D] find every album is a new conquest?
[Ab] [D] Do you have a message that you want to get
across, or do you have a feeling in mind?
Yeah, I want to do something deeper.
I want to do something better.
I don't want [B] to be
the guy who says, well, I loved the early [D] part of his career, but he went [E] downhill.
I remember when I was a kid, there was these great debut [G] albums.
And then three [Ab] albums
later, it'd be like, well, [Eb] [F] I like that early stuff.
[Eb] Never wanted to be that guy.
So I've
got this kind of drive to make sure my most recent stuff is the stuff that people are
going, I can't [Bb] believe he topped that last album.
[Eb] Hey, guys.
Oh, my God.
We have the Bacon Tasting.
Smells good.
Warren [Gbm] Hobb roasted, [Abm] maple smoked, [E] pecan wood smoked.
And there's two of each, so you [Dm] guys
can each have one.
Ready?
All right, well [Ab]-
How do you eat this, with your hands?
I just pick it up and eat it.
With your hands?
You want to go with the [Eb] jalapeno first, because that was the one.
[E] So cheers. Cheers.
Is that [B] what they do?
Clam.
Clam.
You're [Eb]
terrible.
[Bm]
I mean, you won't notice the heat right away, but [E]
it grows on you.
[G]
I get it.
It's delicious.
This doesn't really taste like normal bacon.
It tastes like, the
[Bm] texture is like a good piece of bacon.
Right.
[B] But the flavor is like, it's milder than bacon.
Not quite as sodium [E] crazy.
Well, that's why the fat is so good, because the fat can just hold other flavors with it as well.
[Ebm]
Beach, pork belly, curly pork belly tacos,
[Dm] loaded [F] potato spring [B] rolls.
Wall of Sound.
Now, we all know [C] what a Wall of Sound is.
[E] Why that [Am] title for this album?
[Dm] You know, I like the idea of a Wall of Sound.
[E] You know, when you go to a concert and [C] it's
just overwhelmingly [F] -
Like, from an upstairs.
[G] Yeah, it's just big.
The sound [E] is big.
Loud, [C] and it's just impressive.
[E] And I've always loved that [Dm] term.
And I've always kind of [A] tried
to do that with my music, [C] with lots of different [Ab] layers and lots of [E] contrast, going [Am] from really
quiet to just like ripping your head off [Em] type of thing in a split [E] second.
And I just love
that [Am] impact.
So the title was, you [F] know, it's kind of a phrase everybody knows, [C] sometimes
related to music.
[E]
And I just thought, why not use it myself?
30 years of being a [D] recording artist.
Unbelievable.
And being on the talent side, what's different now from then when you put out your first
Cacophony record back in like the late 80s?
As far as creating music, if you do anything, you'll get better at it.
I mean, the more
you learn how to cook [Bb] bacon, the more interesting flavors [Dm] you'll come up with.
And then [C] obviously,
technology allows us to even [F] broaden our [Ab] musical horizons when it comes to creating and [E] editing
music [Am] and preparing music.
I mean, [Ab] back in the old days, you prepared everything on a
[F] little cassette and then go into the studio [Eb] and hope that everything works.
Now, [Am] you know,
you [Em] edit everything before you go to the studio so you can really perform [Abm] when you're recording,
not just trying [D] to play it right.
You're actually performing like an [Eb] artist.
[Gm]
[C] I hope you got that reaction.
I [Eb] hope you got that.
I'm not much of a pot smoker, [Bb] but if I was, [Ab] this would be the place to go.
This is the type of thing [Eb] that just like makes your senses, [Bb] your flavor buds move.
That's [C] the most [Abm] interesting combination.
Wait, I gotta try that again.
Watermelon and bacon?
Come on.
[Bb]
I think it's working.
That's [Ab] weird.
[E] The pork belly is crispy.
[N] The watermelon is soft.
You got that [Gb] soy glaze to it.
The sweetness of the watermelon pushes the flavor of the bacon.
I see this happening in Japan.
Japan is very famous for strange fusions of food.
And this is [Dbm] the strangest, but it works.
[D] This is not the type of thing you come up with in your kitchen.
This is like a master chef when he's totally [B] stoned on drugs [D] comes up with this.
[Gb] This is really [G] interesting.
And interesting in a good way.
I like this.
[Gb] So my job today was to try to teach Marty Freeman about [D] how awesome bacon is.
I [Ab] think you succeeded.
Did I succeed?
I think you did.
I've never had this [Eb] much bacon at [B] once.
It's a pleasure of mine.
So now when you do interviews, make sure you give bacon [Dbm] the credit it deserves.
[Gb] I will.
And [E] if I'm deserted on a desert island like they asked me in that question, I'll say,
I'll take the bacon over the beautiful girl.
Yeah, right.
Adam [G] Pak from Metal Injection.
My [E] job here is complete.

This is the type of thing _ [Eb] _ that just like makes your senses, [Bb] your flavor buds _ move.
That's [C] the most [Abm] interesting combination.
Wait, I gotta try that again. _ _ _
Watermelon and bacon?
Come on.
[Bb] _ _ _
I think it's working.
That's [Ab] weird.
[E] The pork belly is crispy.
[N] _ The watermelon is soft.
You got that [Gb] soy glaze to it. _ _
_ _ The sweetness of the watermelon pushes the flavor of the bacon.
I see this happening in Japan.
Japan is very famous for strange fusions of food.
_ _ _ And this is [Dbm] the strangest, but it works.
[D] This is not the type of thing you come up with in your kitchen.
This is like a master chef when he's totally [B] stoned on drugs [D] comes up with this.
[Gb] _ This is really [G] interesting.
And interesting in a good way.
I like this.
[Gb] So my job today was to try to teach Marty Freeman about [D] how awesome bacon is.
_ I [Ab] think you succeeded.
_ Yeah, right.
Adam [G] Pak from Metal Injection.
My [E] job here is complete.
Marty Freeman _ [D] loves bacon.
I do.
I [G] really do.
It's [C] great.
_ _ [F] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
What's up everybody, Marty Friedman here.
I'm in New York City.
My friends at Metal
Injection have brought me to Bar Bacon to show me that bacon is really rad.
Now, I never
really thought too much about [A] bacon.
I could pretty much live without it.
But these [Ab] guys
are so enthusiastic that I thought I'd give them [E] a try.
_ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _
[Gb] _ _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _
_ _ [A] _ [Eb] Hey, this is Adam [Am] Pak.
[Gb] _ You're in New Almazad, [E] you're traveling the world, you're playing all over the place.
I'm sure you get to eat everything, any type of food there is on [G] the planet.
_ So let me
start off by [Gb] asking, what is your favorite type of cuisine?
My favorite food, if I had to choose one thing, would probably be sushi.
[G] Sushi, okay.
[B] _
More New York pizza.
_ Is that [E] something that you can still find over in Japan?
[Eb] Sushi?
No, [E] of course the sushi, but New York style pizza.
No, [B] that's one thing.
Japan has everything under the [Db] sun, but they do [A] not have New York
[B] pizza.
_ [Ab] They don't have anything even [Gb] close.
Now let me ask you about my favorite [B] food, which is bacon.
You say you're [Bm] not really
impressed by it or you don't understand the big-
If I never had it, I wouldn't miss it.
_ Is [Abm] there any [Bm] reason?
A lot of American [Ab] people, I notice, just think if you put bacon on anything, [Gb] it's just like
the world opens up.
To me, it's just another thing if it was there, if it wasn't.
Bacon
in Japan is different from bacon here, I noticed.
It's like a lot _ thicker.
It doesn't have that
kind of crispy bacon that [E] we grew up with here.
_ _ [Db] And that too, it's just another [B] option
of meat, but I don't really [D] get the all of a sudden put bacon on it and it's [Bb] fantastic.
Right.
Yeah, it takes a-
[D] _ What is it [Eb] that keeps you going?
What motivates you [Bb] to put out another record?
Bacon, dude.
[Dm] _ Okay, I know that's not [Gm] true, but-
It's not true, but I don't know, because [Eb] by nature, I'm a [Bbm] lazy bastard.
I really am.
But
when it comes to making music, [G] all of a sudden I get crazy [Eb] motivated, like the ultimate,
[Bb] _ _ perfectionist workaholic.
_ [F] It's really a disease [Gm] until that record gets done.
Do you [D] find every album is a new conquest?
[Ab] _ [D] Do you have a message that you want to get
across, or do you have a feeling in mind?
Yeah, I want to do something deeper.
I want to do something better.
I don't want [B] to be
the guy who says, well, I loved the early [D] part of his career, but he went [E] downhill.
I remember when I was a kid, there was these great debut [G] albums.
And then three [Ab] albums
later, it'd be like, well, [Eb] _ [F] I like that early stuff.
[Eb] _ Never wanted to be that guy.
So I've
got this kind of drive to make sure my most recent stuff is the stuff that people are
going, I can't [Bb] believe he topped that last album.
Clam.
_ Clam.
You're [Eb]
terrible.
_ [Bm] _ _ _ _ _
I mean, you won't notice the heat right away, but [E] _
it grows on you.
_ _ _ _ [G] _
I get it.
It's delicious.
_ _ This doesn't really taste like normal bacon.
_ It tastes like, the
[Bm] texture is like a good piece of bacon.
Right.
[B] But the flavor is like, it's milder than bacon.
Not quite as sodium [E] crazy.
Well, that's why the fat is so good, because the fat can just hold other flavors with it as well.
[Ebm]
Beach, pork belly, curly pork belly tacos, _
[Dm] _ loaded [F] potato spring [B] rolls.
Wall of Sound.
Now, we all know [C] what a Wall of Sound is.
[E] Why that [Am] title for this album?
_ _ [Dm] You know, I like the idea of a Wall of Sound.
[E] You know, when you go to a concert and [C] it's
just _ overwhelmingly [F] _ -
Like, from an upstairs.
[E] _
And I just thought, why not use it myself?
30 years of being a [D] recording artist.
Unbelievable.
And being on the talent side, _ _ what's different now from then when you put out your first
Cacophony record back in like the late 80s?
As far as creating music, if you do anything, you'll get better at it.
I mean, the more
you learn how to cook [Bb] bacon, the more interesting flavors [Dm] you'll come up with.
And then [C] obviously,
_ technology allows us to even [F] broaden our [Ab] musical horizons when it comes to creating and [E] editing
music [Am] and preparing music.
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Gm] _ _
_ _ _ [C] I hope you got that reaction.
_ I [Eb] hope you got that. _
_ _ _ I'm not much of a pot smoker, [Bb] but if I was, _ _ [Ab] this would be the place to go. _ _ _ _
This is the type of thing _ [Eb] _ that just like makes your senses, [Bb] your flavor buds _ move.
