Welcome back y'all.
You know Max Dalling loves to blend his brand of traditional
country with several other flavors of music.
One of my personal favorites is
the Spanish flamenco sounding Pila song.
Andale!

Well [Am] the wind was hot, the sun was hard.
[C] I was beaten, my mare was [G] tired.
And the fence line I was riding [Am] stretched forever.
And my mind drifted off and [C] back to
Carmela and her heart of black [G] and the things that she'd said to me [Am] yesterday.
So when the boss sent me out checking fences [C] I was glad cuz I knew that it
meant [G] I could spend some time out [F#] all alone.
[B] [Am]
[A] I wiped the sweat that stung my [C] eyes,
looked up and I realized [G] that I was coming up on the [Am] Southwind Mill.
And the
concrete tanks that stood [C] beside the water trough that it [G] supplied when the trough was full of milk.
[Am]
[A] So we drank deep from the shallow [C] trough and wet my hair gave me the [G] thought of
slimming that big tank [C] might cool me down.

So I shook my duds and hung them [D] on the fence.
Climbed the wires and reached the [A] rim.
Pulled myself on [Bm] up and I jumped right in.
Found the water was cool down [D] underneath, but deeper than I thought it'd [A] be.
There was no ladder, the walls were [Bm] slipping off.
Well sure enough I got [D] cooled down.
When I found I had no way [A] out, I thought of a rat in the feed and [C#] chilled my blood.
[Bm]
At first I laughed at the fix [Em] I was in.
[D] Then my troubles all sank [A] in without some help.
[Bm] I was there to stay.
And I screamed and clawed and no [D] avail.
But my dignity and voice [A] failed.
Wore my fingers down on those [Bm] damn bars.
And I marked the time with the [D] windmill shade.
As it crossed my mossy grade [A] and cows come in water twice a day, [D] twice a day.

I'd always figured lightning [E] struck a rattlesnake, a barren [B] fire could do me in.
And not some [C#m] Mexican road.
Fact is I was [E] hot and dumb, struck stupid by the sun and love.
So [B] on the one hand I guess she [C#m] played her part.
Come on, all that time I cussed her [E] lot.
But I cussed myself the most [B] because I had not looked [C#m] before I'd left.
[C#] [C#m] And I overhead an eagle [B] soars.
And I smell rain coming from the north.
I wonder if she'll even [G#] shed one tear.
Oh, [G#] just one [C#m] tear over [Bm]
[E] me.
