When I developed sleeping see I came up in the age where I'd never seen it
See we used to call in my hometown of Chicago sleeping rakes
Because it reminded me of raking leaves it wasn't until Frank Ambali
Popularized the name sweet.
We never called them sweeps
[Em] Here's how I started when I was a [N] little boy.
There's [Abm] an old song
[B]
[Db] [E]
[Abm] [Eb]
[Ab] [G] That's the first time I ever heard
Anybody doing that on the [Abm] guitar
[C] Now I play piano and [Abm] I'm able to do arpeggios
So I asked [Db] myself how do I play an arpeggio on guitar?
[Cm] I never no [Em] one had ever stopped one
I don't I didn't know any no jazz guitar players played sweeps like that.
[G] Yeah, so I came up with my version [Abm] was this
But it sounded too mellow to me like I came up with this
I
[Gb] [B] [Dbm]
[Abm]
was very young [G] and then what I said is that's not a good way to play [C] arpeggios
It doesn't sound like a piano.
So I started [Abm] thinking this
[B] And [Db]
what I [Abm] did is I took that and said
So [G] because I've never seen it, you know now anybody knows that before it was not known at all
So what I did was to learn how to play these sweeps.
I taught myself I figured out the shape
[Abm]

I
[N] Do is I practiced it slow see when I play
[B] [Abm]
And

But you're picking the hand is moving slow and I watch people all the time.

just to watch this hand makes a complete difference because you can see if you're going
