[F] [Bb]
My new album, Hopeless Romantic, [G] is an album about falling [Dm] in and out of love and all of
the excitement and the [Bb] perils of being in relationships.
It's a really, I think at the
core, more of a [Dm] positive, romantic record.
[F] It really is about ultimately [Dm] finding love.
[F]
[Bb] Even though there hasn't been an album out, I've never stopped writing.
I had all [Dm] this
material I was sitting on and it was like, [F] do I record all this old material [Bb] or do I
write new [Gm] material?
And I was like, you know what, I want a fresh start.
[Dm] I'm just going
to let that be [F] the past and I'm going to start writing a new record.
[C] It was the first
[Dm] time I was single since I [F] was a teenager, so there was a lot of [Gm] inspiration coming through
from ending an 11-year marriage [Dm] and dating for the first time [F] and being on my own as
an adult.
[Gm] There was a lot to pull [Dm] from.
[G] I guess [Gm] musically, it was really important for
me that it be like a band.
I wanted it to be a little bit more rock [F] and roll and really
[Gm] it's all about the bass guitar and the drums on this [Gm] record.
So I pulled in Patrick Harney
from the Black Keys [Dm] to produce it.
It was [F] great because it added a [Bb] toughness to lyrics
that could be taken the other [Dm] direction and could have been [F] too sweet.
He [Bb] really encouraged
[Bb] me to play more of the guitar myself, which [C] I've always been a guitar player, so I've
[Dm] always [Bb] been happy to play rhythm guitar, but he was like, no, play the parts you're hearing.
You can do this.
[C] I'm still a fan [Dm]
of the Keys, so [C] it's been great.
[Dm]
[Bb] I do believe [D] that I've learned a lot about myself by writing this record, [Dm] especially
because it has [C] been [Gm] about my life for a change.
It's [F] always interesting when you'll write
a song and six months [Bb] later you look at it and you realize, [Gm] oh, I was really feeling
[Dm] that way, I was really in that spot.
So [C] that felt [Dm] empowering as well.
[G]
It's [Bb] really cool because I think the core fan [G] base, I guess, that I have, [Dm] we all came up together and that's been the beauty of it, is we've been able to grow together.
I feel like especially in my own life, my female friends, when I gave them this record, they [F] were like, yes, [Bb] thank you.
I [Gm] really identify with this and I think that's the [Dm] beauty of it.
