We recorded a couple weeks ago, Midnight on the Water, instrumentally.
Some words that a gal we know named Judith Edelman put to this.
It was her feelings that she came up with when she heard this song.
This is a famous old fiddle tune written by
[A] [B]
her.
A few people have put words to it, and this is what Judith [G] thought of it.
We like what she wrote.
[F#] After we sing it, I'll tell you what the song's really about.
[D]
[G] No one was out in hour eleven
No one was watching the [D] fast [G] moon rise
In the town they all slept undisturbed by my engine
Though I tore through the still of [D]
their midnight [G] sky
Twenty-one years I lied about my age
[A] They [Am] taught me to fly, [Em] they gave me a plane
And [C] with my country as my witness [G] and my orders to obey
It was midnight on the water [D] when I blew that [G] town away
[F#] [E]
[C] Midnight [G]
on [D] the water, [Em]
[C] blue [G] town [D] [E] sky
[C] Midnight [G]
on [D] the water, [C] goodbye

[G] know that town or another just like it
I have brothers and sisters [D] and the mothers [G] still there
In my dream they are sleeping down by the water
It's a beautiful picture [D] for flying [G] the air
Then I'm down calling everybody's name
[Am] No one can hear me, [Em] no one can see the plane
And [C] then I wake in a cold [G] sweat, every night it is the same
Midnight on the water, and [D] I can't go [G] home again
[E]
[C] Midnight [G]
on [D] the water, [E]
[C] blue [G] town
[D] [E] sky
[C] Midnight [G]
on the [D] water, [C] goodbye

Okay, so Judith saw in her song somebody who couldn't get over things they had to do during the time of war.
Actually a [F#] friend of mine, Rich Levine, was visiting some folks [N] down in Texas and I think from some of the Benny Thomson family
and found out that it was actually these guys had been working on their cattle ranch all day
and when they came home and put their feet up on the water and trough and sit there and played the fiddle
that was Midnight on the Water.
It's less depressing.
It's less depressing, however this is a beautiful song and our thanks to you.
