Hey guys, this is Dustin again, and today we're going to be going over Mighty to Save
on the electric guitar in the key of A.
Now, the recording that we follow for this song
is by a band called Campaign, but the song we know was written by Hillsong.
So let's
go straight to it on the guitar, and grab your trusty G7th capo.
Again, I say it every
time, but the only capo you should be using on electric that's not going to put you completely
out of tune.
So let's head over right here, and we put that, since this is in the key
of A, let's put that on the second fret.
Alright, so when that comes in there's a little electric
lead line.
There's two electrics on this song, so I'll kind of go over some of that.
Again,
as I've said before, any lead line can be played hundreds of ways.
I'm walking you through
the way that I play it, the way I've found is the simplest.
So, the little lead line
is on the B and the E string.
It starts right up here on the 7th fret, [F#m] then
[Bm] [A] [D]
[G#m] [C#]
[F#m] it starts over
again.
[F] So it's a pretty simple line.
You want to have some nice overdrive on that, maybe
a little delay to kind of make it a little bigger.
Other than that, you're kind of just
keeping it simple on the verse, and usually the electric's not playing anything on the
verse there.
[G] And if you are, it's [A] just kind of little arpeggios.
Now, during the chorus,
that quiet chorus that's right through there, it's got the little lead line through the
second half.
Now, a lot of people play this in many different ways.
I like a little hammer-on
method right up there on the 14th fret.
So we get all the way up here, the 14th, and
I'm doing this on the G and the B string.
I've got this little line here where I hammer
on to the G.
[D]
I hammer on to the G and then I strum the B string, both fretted on the
14th fret, and then I hammer on up to the 16th on that G.
[A#] So everyone's got different
ways.
It goes back to that lead [F#m] line.
When it comes in real [N] big, the chorus for the electric,
you've got the chorus, [Am] the G.
I like to spread that G out to get that high note up in there.
[E]
[D] C2, [A] G, [F#m] Dm7, spread that D out [E] again.
[A]
[E] Pretty simple.
Now there is a solo in this song.
It's a really nice one.
It's really fun to play.
Kind of
watch me for what I'm doing on this and I'll just kind of walk you through.
This is in
the pentatonic.
I believe this is the fourth position of the pentatonic scale.
So I hope
you know your positions of your pentatonic because it really, really comes in handy.
So I'll kind of walk you through this.
I kind of start up here on the 7th fret and then
I slide right into that fourth position there.
So here it goes.
[B] [A] [B] [C#m]
[Bm] [C#m] [F#m]
[C#] [E]
[F#m]
[E]
[F#] [D]
[A] So that's pretty much it
and the speed it's at is more [C#m] around this kind of pace.
[Bm] [C#] [F#]
[C#m]
[F#m] [E]
[F#] [Bm]
So that's a very, very fun lead
line to play.
I'm going to do it one more time for you real slow so you can kind of
watch what I'm doing.
I know it's a little hard to tell.
Maybe blow this video up to
full screen, kind of check it out if you want to dig through it, replay it and replay it
until you can really pick it out.
So let me do that for you one more time.
This is where
we start.
It kind of leads in with this right there on the 7th fret starting on that A string.
[E]
[F#] [G#m] [C#m] [F#]
[B] [F#] [E] [Bm]
[C#m] [F#m]
[C#m]
[F#m]
[E] [A]
So learn that part.
It's a really fun part to play when you've got it down but I know
it can take a little bit of work.
So that's about it.
You know the chords for that bridge
part, that C2, that G, [E]
that Dsus and then every now and then it goes to that E [F#m] minor.
[D] So learn those parts.
It's pretty simple.
The chords are pretty straight forward and
that's about it.
So make sure you've got your capo.
Make sure you're playing within the
second fret.
It really helps out with your voicings on these chords.
It really gets them
nice and sane.
Fill this one in.
Get it nice and overdriven.
Play it on your rhythm pickup
whatever that may be.
That's about it.
So practice this one up.
