Hi Dave Jones here again.
We're gonna look at a bit of a beginner
Theme tune today.
It's got a few things in it one thing fret rule, which would be useful for beginners
And it's got it's quite famous tunes called mission impossible
I've not take the whole thing out, but the last bit if you get in the PDF the last bit is
It's okay to play along to the song.
It's [Ab] a bit too spacey
There's a bit more too much music going on to actually be able to play it as a bit of a riff
So what I've just notated it so as everyone can if people want to play the whole tune they can but
The one who's do today should play the main riff and the little infill bits and then go back to the main riff again
[C] So what is I play through it for you?
And then I'll give you a bit of a close-up
There's a couple things especially to begin.
There's a couple things going on in here
[Db]
So I'll [F] play through it first and then we'll [D] do it okay, so here we go
[G]
[Gm]
[G]
[C] [G]
[F] [E]
Oh
[C]
[Gm]
[Fm] [Gb] [N]
Etc so yeah, what I'll do is I'll show you a little close-up of it and then I'll talk you through some things going on
Okay, so here we go that just a little close-up of it
So what the big the big thing there is using one finger per fret we're gonna play the first fret second fret and third fret
So the first notes at the third fret on the sticky string
So use first second and third fingers respectively for each of the frets that way you won't have to fly around all over the place
with your hand so
What I'm doing there is I'm playing the E string sticky string [G] with my third finger
Twice I'll talk about the right hand stuff in a minute twice at the third fret
Then [Bb] I'm going to the first fret on the A string.
So I'm gonna use my first finger and
then the third fret on the A string, so [C] I'm gonna use my third finger [G] so that's and
[Bb] [C]
[G] [Bb] [C]
[G] Then the next phrase is third fret again on the sticky string twice
The next time I'm gonna play the first fret on the sticky string first finger second fret on the [Gb] sticky string
[G] Second finger so and [F]
[G]
[Gb] you can see by doing that I don't have [G] to fly around all over the
[E]
One is it doesn't sound as musical and the other thing is I'm having to fly around all over the place
So it's a really good idea to sort of fan your hand out [Gm] if you can
[Gb]
[G] Save you moving around using the same fingers each time for each note
So you'll learn the tune an awful lot quicker as well if you're like a relative beginner and then there's a little phrase there which goes
Three on the after you play that twice
play that twice and then we go down to the
G [Bb]-string
Play three [G] and then open [Bb] G string.
So it's third fret G string
[G] Open G string and then [D] open D string
[Bb] so [G] [D]
and then third fret of [Bb] the G string again
[G]
open G string
[Dbm] fourth fret of the A string
Then back to the open G string back to the third fret of the G [D] string again
open [G] again
[C]
Third [G] fret of the A string so that little phrase is three oh on [Bb] the G string
[G] Open on the D three [Bb] oh on the G again
[G]
four on the [Db] I
three oh on the [Bb] G string again
[G] three on the [C] I
with your third finger [Fm] and then [Bb] one three on the I
[C] [Em] so [Gm] slowly that's
[Db] [C]
and then you're back into the same [G] riff again once and [Gb]
then the next phrase is three on the
Sorry [Bb] three on the G
[G] Open again, and then this time I'm gonna play two on the a
Then back to three [Bb] on Oh on the G
[G] one on the a
three [Bb] on G again
[Em] Open a and then four three [D]
on the B.
So slowly that's three oh on G
[G] two on the high [Gb] three oh on [G] G
one [Gm] on the high
three oh and G
[Em]
Open high E and then [C]
four
[Eb] [D] Three on the B [G] and then you'd be back [Gm] into your
[F] back into your riff again
So what [G] I do is I just show you what's going on with the right hand with the riff and then we'll be just about finished
Okay
The technique that I'm playing with my picking hand [C] is called damping
There's a couple of bits up on 12 bar blues, which [Gb] you might want to [Em] move on to after this single
melody [Eb] thing
And the damping gives you your strings a deader sound I'll show you in a minute.
So if I played that [G] riff without
[C] [G] [N]
You can hear that it's a bit ringy there and that's not particularly like what the actual song sounds like
so what I'm doing is with this part of my hand with the
Sort of heel of my hand karate chopping so I think I'm resting at this part on the guitar
It's called the bridge doesn't matter what they use an acoustic or electric guitar still got a bridge on it
And now you have to experiment with this because I'm only playing the top two strings
I'm only resting on the top two strings and it gives me a [E] deader sound
as opposed to
[N] So what you do is you experiment with that if you've never done it before and if you further [F] along you move
[E] the deader the note gets
just depends what what sort of
What sort of mute you [Gb] want but [G] for this I'm going
[Gm]
[Gb] And [E] it just makes more of an authentic mission impossible type thing tune sound.
So [G] there's a although it's a very relatively simple tune
There's a good few things to get in there
so you can use the [E] damping new technique if you're [B] a beginner and
obviously the one finger per fret rule is very important if you're a beginner to so like I say I've notated the whole thing out, but if you
You couldn't play the whole thing.
It'd be a bit empty without the other music going on
So I've left the bottom bit off, but I've let
The lesson but I've put it on in case you want to play it
So I hope you find that useful and I'll see [N] you again
We're gonna look at a bit of a beginner

[G]
[C] [G]
[F] [E]
Oh
[C]
[Gm]
[Fm] [Gb] [N]
Etc so yeah, what I'll do is I'll show you a little close-up of it and then I'll talk you through some things going on
Okay, so here we go that just a little close-up of it

[G] [Bb] [C]
[G] Then the next phrase is third fret again on the sticky string twice
The next time I'm gonna play the first fret on the sticky string first finger second fret on the [Gb] sticky string
[G] Second finger so and [F]
[G]
[Gb] you can see by doing that I don't have [G] to fly around all over the
[E]
One is it doesn't sound as musical and the other thing is I'm having to fly around all over the place

[G] Open again, and then this time I'm gonna play two on the a
Then back to three [Bb] on Oh on the G
[G] one on the a
three [Bb] on G again
[Em] Open a and then four three [D]
on the B.
So slowly that's three oh on G
[G] two on the high [Gb] three oh on [G] G
one [Gm] on the high
three oh and G
[Em]
Open high E and then [C]
four
[Eb] [D] Three on the B [G] and then you'd be back [Gm] into your
[F] back into your riff again
