[D] [A] Hey guys, welcome to the channel Rocking the Country.
I'm Don and today I'm doing a song that's going to be a powerful song in a lot of ways
because it ties in the feel of second generation.
Well, I'll just say it's Mo Pitney's version of Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes.
And I know in country there's a lot of talk, you know, George Jones originally did it.
I'm assuming George originally did it.
I don't think someone else did it.
It just would make sense that he did that song.
And the question was who's gonna fill their shoes?
And you know, the artist that went before him who did traditional country.
And George was singing about, you know, Willie and Johnny and Waylon and others that he was
paying homage to them.
And now Mo is doing his rendition of it.
And Mo is only like 24 years old or something in this video that we're gonna see of him
playing this song.
And Mo definitely could fill their shoes, my opinion obviously.
But he's from Cherry Valley, Illinois.
That's where he's from.
And this was requested by Dawn Pritchard.
And also Flowers103, you're a big fan.
I noticed that in the comments, one or two things that you may have said and liked and
all that, that you like Mo.
But Mo, the last song I did of his, you guys just rate pretty much all the comments were
so favorable about him.
And it's understandable when you see this.
So I've not seen this rendition of it.
I haven't seen it.
So this will be new to me and perhaps new to some of you guys.
So here we go with who's gonna fill their shoes.
It's an homage to George Jones and about
Oh, he's doing this at the opera.
[E] [A]
You know, this world is full of singers, [C#m] but just a few are chosen.
[D] Tear your heart out [A] when they sing.
Goodness.
Imagine life without [C#m] all your radio heroes.
[D] Like the outlaw [E] that walks through [A] Jesse's dreams.
Oh, there'll never be another [C#m] redheaded stranger.
[D] A man in black or foes on [A] prison blues.
Yogi from Muskogee.
[C#m] Or hello darling.
[D] Lord, I [E] wonder who's gonna fill [A] their shoes.
Who's gonna fill their shoes?
[D] Who's gonna stand [A] that tall?
[E] Who's gonna play the opery [A] or the Wabash Cannonball?
Who's gonna give their heart and [D] soul to get to me and you?
[A] Lord, I wonder [E] who's gonna fill [A] their shoes.
[A#] God bless the boys from Memphis.
[Dm] Blue suede shoes and Elvis.
[D#] Much too soon they left this world [A#] in tears.
[F] [A#] They tore up the 50s.
[Dm] Oh, Jerry Lee and Charlie.
[D#] And go, Cat, go, [F] still echoes through [A#] the [F#] years.
I'm gonna pause it real quickly just because there
I mean, I've said this before, but if you just let a song play straight through,
you're more likely to get blocked.
But I'm not just doing it for that, but the thought
He just mentioned Jerry Lee.
And my buddy was the bass player on Jerry Lee's American tour for three years.
And Jerry Lee Lewis.
And a different kind of cat.
But you hear all these names and stuff and different thoughts pop into your mind.
You know, Merle Haggard, Man in Black with Johnny Cash.
But then you see this kid, Moe.
He's a man.
I mean, because he's in his 20s and whatnot.
But where did that voice come from?
You look at that and you're like, you just marvel.
The dude just has it and he gets it.
That kind of thing.
[B] You know the heart of country music.
[D#m] Still beats in Luke the Drifter.
[E] You can tell it when he sang, I [B] saw the [F#] light.
[B] Marty Hankin left.
[D#m] I can feel him right here with [E] me.
On this silver eagle, [F#] rolling [B] through the night.
Who's gonna build their shoes?
[E] Who's gonna [B] stand that tall?
[F#] Who's gonna play the opera?
[B] Or the wabash hand in law?
He's gonna play the opera.
Who's gonna give their heart and [E] soul to me and you?
[B] Lord, I wonder.
[F#] Who's gonna [B] fill their shoes?
[E] Lord, [B] I wonder.
[F#] Who's gonna fill their [E] shoes?
Thank you [D#m] [C#m]
[B] guys so much.
Thank you.
[N] Love you guys.
Wow.
I already made my comments.
You guys can leave the comments on that yourself.
Because many of you are so much more knowledgeable than I am about country.
You know.
And there's no shame in that on my end at all.
I mean, we all have our own trajectories and stuff.
But you all turn me on to really good music.
But on to Red Dirt Outlaw Americana, Eastern Kentucky.
You know, call it traditional country with that feel, that heart.
So I'm gonna leave the comments up to you guys.
Because you have a lot more to say that would be on point.
Than what I would have to say right here.
All that I can say is, wow.
I'm not rating it.
That's gonna go into my classic songs.
Not rated playlist.
Even though, I mean, it just seems the right place to put it.
So there you go guys.
Mo Pitneys.
Who's gonna fill their shoes?
Let's see.
Dawn Pritchard.
That was for you.
Thank you so much Dawn.
As well as Flowers 103.
And everybody else who's a Mo fan out there.
I hope we hear more from Mo in the future.
I think we will.
I think he's only cut one album.
That was about three years ago.
Country music does move slow on album production.
Generally speaking.
So we should be hearing from him soon.
I hope.
Alright, that's it.
Have a great day guys.
Hit that like button if you're up for that.
See you on another video.
Keep rocking the country.
