Okay, first off, hello Moby Great fans.
We walk a lonely road, but here's one for you.
I'm going to show you how I just played that bit, and at the end I'll talk about a couple
of other versions you might have heard [N] on YouTube.
I start like this.
[A] [Bm] [Dbm]
[A] Okay.
[D] You [Ab] guys know those old [E] kind of country six shows, [A] major and [C] minor sixes.
[D] [B]
[A] [Bb] It's kind of like that.
That's probably what Peter Lewis was thinking.
[F]
To facilitate fluidity though, [A] it's probably not so good to play it like that, like this.
[G] [Dbm]
Because it makes it hard once you reach this bit up here.
But we'll come to that.
So I start with the whole bar here, [B] and the [C] [G] finger behind it.
So slide up, [A]
again.
Then this finger comes away.
[Ab] [G]
[Dbm] Okay.
[C] [A] [C] [Bm]
[Dbm] Now by doing it this way, your bar is already there for the next bit, which is this.
[Bm] [E]
[Abm] [Gb]
[B] Okay.
[E] [Ab] Now this chord here, [Abm] [A] [Ab]
your bar there across the ninth, you're fingering the D on the E
string, and the, what is it, the F sharp on the G.
So it sounds like this.
[Bb] You're then hammering [Gbm] on the D, [E]
[A] [Gb] the B, and the A.
[Db] [Bm] [Db]
[A] [Em] Like this.
[Gb] So [Bm] that's the, what, G sharp and the F sharp on the G string.
So all together.
[E] [Db]
Okay.
That takes a bit of work, getting that fluid.
So, yep.
[Abm]
[D] Now this bar's already in place there for you to then slide it down here to the seventh.
[Gb]
That's the 7 9 7 on the D and the 9 on the A.
[Bb] [Ab]
[E] [Gb]
[B] [D] You got that?
[Ab] Okay.
Then this [E] happens.
[A]
[Ab]
[B] Let's take that slow.
[Gb]
Okay.
You're then [E] hitting the open E string.
Then the E on the D string.
So that's E, E, [Bb] slide from the F sharp up to the G sharp, and [E] play it again to the B.
Okay.
Sounds a bit like the Beatles, doesn't it?
Now, this leaves you perfectly in position for the final bit, which is the original.
[A]
Let's [Ab] do that [E] slowly.
[A]
[Eb]
Okay.
Now, just before we finish though, a couple of other videos are on YouTube with some interesting variations.
There's one guy who plays the [F] classic 6th shape like this.
[Gm] [Dbm]
Now that's [F] interesting.
He goes like this.
[Gm] [Dbm] [B]
[F] [Gbm]
[Em]
Now, that's probably working too hard to play like that way, but it [Ab] is a nice variation.
So I'll just play it one more time again.
[A] [Bm]
[B] [Abm]
[B] [E]
[A]
[Eb] Okay.
But there also is a video of Pete Lewis himself from Moby Great playing it.
He kind of confirms this chord up here.
[E]
[Am] Okay.
However, there is a third guy who [E] does this.
Instead of this, he plays this.
[A] He [Bb] plays it like [E]
this.
[A]
Now, that's interesting.
He's playing a kind of A6 [Ab] shape down here.
I'll play that [E] slowly.
[Dbm] [E]
[A] [Ab]
So that's another nice variation.
I think he's working too hard there though.
I don't think that's an [A] economical position.
Just slide back up here to the home position.
But it's nice.
You can choose whatever of those you want.
Good luck.
