This morning, but first, take four good [F]-looking young men and four amazing voices [E] and what
do you get?
The modern [G] Māori quartet.
Well I try [Bm] as hard as I can [Bbm] [Am] just to make you [Bm] [D] understand.
Understand what, Brian?
That the world, it [Bm] don't [Gb] stop.
[Am] It keeps going, going round and [D] round.
That reminds me of a girl I used to [C] know.
The thing is, I don't want [D] to talk about [G] it.
How [Bm] you broke [Em] my heart.
[Am] And if I stay [D] here just a little bit [C] longer, if I stay [D] here won't you [Am] listen to [G] my heart?
All by [Bm] myself.
I don't [F] want to be all [E] by [Am] myself.
[Bm] How you broke my heart.
[Am] It keeps going, going [D] round and round.
[Am] All
[G] by [Bm] myself.
I don't [F] want to be [E] all by [Am] myself anymore.
Here is my heart.
Won't myself [Eb] anymore.
[F] [G]
[A] [Gm] [E]
[C] I want to know what love [G] is.
Love that [E] you feel [F] inside.
Want you to [G] show me.
I want [C] to know what love is.
[G] I want to, I want to, I want to.
[F] Want you [G] to show me.
[Em] [E] Wairua o [C] te puna.
[E] [G]
[Am]
[C] [A] Always [C] [Em]
on my mind.
[G] Whenever you may go.
There you are.
[Am] So darling.
[Ab] Here is [G] my
[F] heart.
[Fm]
[C]
[E] You guys are funny.
[C] That was very, very calm.
I squashed in the middle.
Greetings.
Thank you so much for coming in.
Thanks for having us.
You're all [D] drama school graduates?
That's right.
We all went to New Zealand Drama School.
We graduated at varying times.
We're actors first really.
Are you actors who sing or singers who act?
We're actors who sing.
You know in this world we live in it's hard to sustain.
James came up with the idea that [Gb] we play music [G] together.
James, was this to make some money?
As well as struggling actors.
To sustain a long career within the arts.
Sometimes acting gigs are far and few.
So I decided to do this with my fellow actors and friends.
And start up this modern quartet.
Based on the Maori show bands of the 60s.
Off the flight of the concords.
This is what we come up with.
The Modern Maori Quartet.
How are you going with that whole making money thing?
[A] We're good so far.
We just did a show in the Auckland Arts Festival.
Everything is kapai.
For us that are relatively fresh in this music world.
We were alongside people like John Rawls.
Annie Crummer and Will Crummer.
Maisie Decker, Ria Hall.
That was an incredible line up wasn't it?
We're really privileged and honoured to be a part of that.
I love the way the humour comes in.
That was very cool.
You know being actors first.
We've got to make the most of [Eb] what we've got. Absolutely wicked.
Thank you so much for coming in.
