Oh, before they turn off [F#m] all the lights, [F#] I want to read you your arms, oh, [D] your eyes.
[B] Time is gone.
Oh, I'll tell you goodnight, [F#m] close the door.
I'll tell you I love you [D] once more.
Time is [A] gone.
[E] Here it is.
I'm not [D] your son.
You're not my [E] father.
We're just two grown men saying [F#m] goodbye.
[D] No need to forget.
[E] No need to forget.
I know [E] your mistakes and you know [F#m] mine.
[D] While you're sleeping, [E] I try to make you proud.
[A] So, daddy, won't you just close [F#m] your eyes?
Don't be [D] afraid.
It's my [E] turn to chase the monsters [A] away.
Sleep a lifetime.
Yes, [F#m] and breathe a last one.
[D] Feel my hand on [E] your arms.
I'm not [D] your son.
You're not [E] my father.
We're just two grown men saying [F#m] goodbye.
[D] No need to forget.
[E] No need to forget.
[A] I know your mistakes and you know [F#m] mine.
[D] While you're sleeping, [E] I try to make you proud.
So, daddy, won't you just close [F#m] your eyes?
[D] Don't be afraid.
It's [E] my turn to chase the monsters away.
Sleep a lifetime.
That's alright.
You're not my father.
[N]
Which we are most likely [E] to be in.
I'm going to teach you how to play it using these easy open chords.
And then if you want to be in the exact same key as our brother Ieam,
all you have to do is put a capo on, just like he does, on the first fret.
Okay, and then [C#m] play it exactly as I'm about to teach you.
And that will put you in the same key as he is.
So here we go.
What I'm going to do is I'm going [E] to teach you all of the chord shapes.
And then I'm going to teach you the strum pattern.
And then you can check out the document which has the chords and the lyrics
all put together for you.
So you can sing along and play along to your heart's content.
So let's go over our chords.
The first one is this A chord [A] or A sus 2.
To do it, it's just like a normal A chord.
Except we're going to [B] take off our finger that [C#] would usually be fretting the B string
on the second [E] fret of the B string.
Okay, so now we are like that.
Okay, so just two fingers.
One on the G string, second fret, [Em] and one on the D string, second fret.
[A] And now open A [E] bass.
Okay, that's our first chord.
Then our second chord is this F sharp minor [F#] chord.
Okay, so to play this [C#m] F sharp minor or this variation of it,
[G#] we are going to play, put our little finger [F#] on the fourth fret of our D string
[G#] and our ring finger on the fourth [C#] fret of our A string.
[F#] Right, [A] so then our first finger is going to go to the second fret of our G string.
Okay, so [C#m] we've just got three fingers down [C#] and then we've got these beautiful ring open strings.
[F#] And we're just not playing this low E string.
Okay, [C#]
all right, so [E] that's our F sharp minor chord.
Then our next chord is a D [D] chord, essentially.
Okay, you can play it as a D chord that you [D] already know and love.
But if you want to be a bit fancy and sound a little bit more sophisticated,
you can do that just by playing this version of a D chord here
with a bit of an F sharp there [E] in the bass and an open E string.
So [C] to do that, just like a normal D chord that you'd play,
except take off [A] your middle finger.
Okay, so you've got that open chord there.
So you could play it like that.
D, or if you want to get a bit fancy,
you [F#] could add your little finger to the fourth fret of your D [D] string
to give you that F sharp in the bass.
Okay, but again, up to you.
If you like the sound of just a normal D chord, that's totally fine.
[E] Or just a D chord without [A] that middle finger.
And that's also beautiful.
[D] Or if you want to get fancy, you can add that F sharp [F#] there.
[D] All of those are [G#] going to sound beautiful, [D] I promise you.
And you might like to switch between those [A] during [E] the song.
If you'd like, experiment with that.
Okay, the next chord is an E chord, and that's just a regular E chord.
Okay, nothing fancy about that.
Okay, boom.
Okay, and then that is all of our chords done.
Okay, we've got our A, [F#] our F sharp minor, [D] our D, and our [E] E.
Now I'm just going to [F#] refer to them as those A, F sharp minor, [E] D, and E.
We are [D] playing variations [F] of them, but essentially that's what we're playing.
Okay, so now I'm going to teach you a strum pattern that you can apply to the whole song.
And then you're away [E] laughing.
Down, down, up, down, up, down, down.
Okay, so that's our pattern.
Down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down.
Again.
Down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down.
And then we change chords and we do the same pattern again.
Down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down.
The [Fm] key is to get some emphasis on some of those strums, the accent them.
[E] the in.
Down, down-up, down-up,
down-down.
So [F] the first of the three
downs at the end should be nice and
excited.
And also your first chord.
Down, down-up, down-up so
Down, down-up, down-up, down
down, up, down, up, down
down.
Yeah that beat
really falls heavy on that.
Down,
down, down towards the end there.
So, let's play that again.
Down,
down-up, down-up, down, down
down, down-up, down-up, down
down, down.
Okay.
and then we change chord.
So our intro is just A.
It just plays that a few times.
Alright so let's play our verse part now.
So for our verse we're gonna go A change
Change to our [C#m] F sharp minor
[A] B
[E] And back to A
Down Down Down
And then it starts again
Ok, so let's play that verse part again
Down, Down Up Down Up Down Down Down
Down Down Up Down Up
Change to F Sharp [F#m] Minor
Down, Down Up Down Up Down Down
Down, Down Up Down Up [C#] Down Down
Now [D] D is only gonna be once
Down Down Up Down Down
Then back to
[B] we start, we end with the [E] A chord again.
So down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down.
And then the [G#] second line of the verse begins.
Okay?
So you think about it.
The A
begins the verse and it ends the verse.
And then we start the [E] second line of the
verse again.
Down, down, up, down, down.
[A] [C#] Sorry I don't know the song.
[D] D.
And then we're
going to go back to [E] A.
And this time to get into our chorus we're going to switch
to our E chord.
Okay?
And then we get to our chorus now.
So the chorus is
going to go D to E.
[E]
We're just
Da da da da da [F#m] da.
OK, [C#] so that's our pattern for the chorus.
It goes [D] D.
Da da da da da.
E.
Da da da da da.
To A.
[E] Da da da da da.
[A] Ba ba [F#m] ba ba.
[C#] OK, then same thing again.
[D] D.
Da da da [E] da.
E.
Da da da da.
Da [F#m] da da da.
[E] Da da da.
[D] Da da da da da.
[E] Da da da da da.
[E] OK, and that's it.
And then basically the bridge part
is exactly the same as the verse.
OK, so A to the [D] E sharp to the D [E] to the E.
Boom.
So that's it.

Down, Down Up Down Up Down Down Down
Down Down Up Down Up

Down, Down Up Down Up Down Down
Down, Down Up Down Up [C#] Down Down
Now [D] D is only gonna be once
Down Down Up Down Down
Then back to
[B] we start, we end with the [E] A chord again.
So down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down.
And then the [G#] second line of the verse begins.
Okay?
So you think about it.
The A

And then we start the [E] second line of the
verse again.
Down, down, up, down, down.
_ _ [A] _ _ [C#] Sorry I don't know the song. _
_ _ _ _ _ [D] D.

[E] _
_ _ We're just_
Da da da da da [F#m] da.
OK, _ [C#] so that's our pattern for the chorus.
It goes [D] D.
Da da da da da.
E.
Da da da da da.
To A.
[E] Da da da da da.
[A] Ba ba [F#m] ba ba. _
[C#] _ OK, then same thing again.
[D] _ D.
Da da da [E] da.
E.
_ _ Da da da da.
Da [F#m] _ _ da da da.
_ [E] _ Da da da.
[D] Da da da da da.
_ [E] _ Da da da da da.
[E] _ _ _ OK, and that's it.
And then basically _ the bridge part
is exactly the same as the verse.
OK, so A to the [D] E sharp to the D [E] to the E.
Boom.
So that's it.

We're just two grown men saying [F#m] goodbye. _ _
[D] No need to forget.
[E] No need to forget.
I know [E] your mistakes and you know [F#m] mine. _ _
_ [D] While you're sleeping, [E] I try to make you proud.
[A] So, daddy, won't you just close [F#m] your eyes? _
Don't be [D] afraid.
_ It's my [E] turn to chase the monsters [A] away.
_ _ _ Sleep _ a lifetime.
_ Yes, [F#m] and breathe a last one.
_ [D] Feel _ my hand on [E] your arms.
_ _ I'm not [D] your son.
You're not [E] my father.
We're just two grown men saying [F#m] goodbye.
_ [D] No need to forget.
[E] No need to forget.
[A] I know your mistakes and you know [F#m] mine.
_ _ [D] _ While you're sleeping, [E] I try to make you proud.
So, daddy, won't you just close [F#m] your eyes?
[D] Don't be afraid.
_ It's [E] my turn to chase the monsters away.
_ Sleep a lifetime.
That's alright.
You're not my father. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [N] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
Which we are most likely [E] to be in.
I'm going to teach you how to play it using these easy open chords.
And then if you want to be in the exact same key as our brother Ieam,
all you have to do is put a capo on, just like he does, on the first fret.
Okay, and then _ [C#m] play it exactly as I'm about to teach you.
Okay, _ _ _ so now we are like that.
Okay, so [C#m] we've just got three fingers down [C#] and then we've got these beautiful ring open _ strings.
[F#] And we're just not playing this low E string.
Okay, [C#] _
_ _ _ all right, so [E] that's our F sharp minor chord.
_ [D] All of those are [G#] going to sound beautiful, [D] I promise you.
And you might like to switch between those [A] during [E] the song.
If you'd like, experiment with that.
Okay, the next chord is an E chord, and that's just a regular E chord.
Okay, nothing fancy about that.
Okay, _ _ boom.
_ Again. _
Down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down.
And then we change chords and we do the same pattern again.
Down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down.
_ _ _ _ The [Fm] key is to get some emphasis on some of those strums, the accent them.
[E] the in.
Down, down-up, down-up,
down-down.
So [F] the first of the three
downs at the end should be nice and
excited.
And also your first chord.
Down, down-up, down-up so
Down, down-up, down-up, down
down, up, down, up, down
down.
Yeah that beat
really falls heavy on that.
Down,
down, down towards the end there.
So, let's play that again.
Down,
down-up, down-up, down, down
down, down-up, down-up, down
down, down.
Okay.
and then we change chord.
So our intro is just A. _ _ _
It just plays that a few times.
Alright so let's play our verse part now.
So for our verse we're gonna go A _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ change
Change to our [C#m] F sharp minor
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[A] B
_ _ [E] And back to A
Down Down Down
And then it starts again
_ _ [A] _ _ [C#] Sorry I don't know the song. _
_ _ _ _ _ [D] D.
And then we're
going to go back to [E] A.
And this time to get into our chorus we're going to switch
to our E chord. _ _ _
_ Okay?
And then we get to our chorus now.
So the chorus is
going to go D _ _ to E.
If you're confused about when the chords are played,
don't forget to check out the description box for a link
to the chords and the lyrics all written out on top of each other
so you can strum along and jam along.
[C#] I hope this has been helpful.
