Today we're going to make the most distorted guitar tone ever made.
Why?
Because I'm an idiot.
[Fm] Also, for metal and guitar, science!
[Bbm] [C] It's already [E] so bad.
[N] It's going to be terrible.

We do fun metal things here.
For this experiment, I was going to use my Axe FX and just my usual guitar tone.
However, I didn't know you could only add up to two distortion pedals on an Axe FX because
it's for your safety or whatever.
Stupid!
And as far as I've researched on Google, apparently too many distortion pedals and just too much
gain in general can destroy all of your technology.
I'm not worried about that.
You know, it's 2023.
Everything's AI.
Don't worry about it.
[Eb] So I'm not going to be using my usual guitar tone for this, but I am going to just use
Archetype Gojira anyways.
It's not sponsored by them.
It's just a plugin I can use, so why not?
I don't have any distortion pedals or anything on.
I just have simply [B] an amp.
[C] [E]
[G]
[F] [E] Right, now, I want this to be realistic.
So as if you're a kid that's like 10 years old and you first walk into Guitar Center,
well, number one, you're going to first do this.
[Eb] [D]
There you go.
Drop D.
And then the next thing you're going to obviously do is you're going to go to your
amp naturally, and you're just going to first of all bring the gain all the way up before
you even add pedals or anything.
So let's start with that.
So gain on amp maximized.
[Dm] [Bb] [F]
[D] Squealies?
[G]
Starting off, it doesn't sound so bad, right?
Just gain on max.
Again, we live in the age of high gain amps and everything sounding like noise and inaudible
tuning, so I mean, this is normal to me.
But now we're going to get to the fun.
We all know what pedal we have to use when it comes to adding more distortion.
The Metal Zone.
Now, I don't sadly own 14 Metal Zones.
You know, I just don't have them just backed up.
I only own 10.
So instead, I found this random free plugin online.
I got my gate set.
Just again, just a default Cubase gate here.
So Metal Zone number one.
They call it Metal Area, but it's literally supposed to emulate a Metal Zone.
And we're going to start with just Metal Zone.
Oh, God, I haven't used one of these in a minute.
I guess just maximize the distortion every time.
Sure.
Let's see how this sounds.
[Bb]
[F] [Dm] [C]
[Eb] [Bb]
[D] [F] [G]
I don't know if Metal Zones sounded better over the years, but I didn't hate that.
All right.
So now we're going to really up the game here because we're now, instead of 10 years old,
we're 13 years old and we need to have two Metal Zones because we bought it with Christmas
money that our mom gave us because we were good kids and got good grades.
OK, do good in school, kids.
Don't turn into whatever this is.
OK, so we're going to go over here and we're going to add what's called another Metal Zone.
Thankfully, the [D] gate's still holding up.
That's good at minus 60 dB.
All right, I'm just going to strum and we're going to see what happens.
Two Metal Zones, 100% distortion.
[Dm] [E]
[C]
[G] [D] [C]
[G] [Bb]
[D] Yeah, definitely starting to hear tone degradation at this point.
It's still OK, though.
Like, my ears aren't bleeding.
The gate's still holding all the distortion.
What happens if I take off the gate?
We're going to keep the gate on for this.
We're going to go to three Metal Zones now.
[Bb]
[D] [Bb] [B]
What the?
The gate did everything it could there.
So we got some noises at three, but like the tone itself, [Dm]
like
[A] Am [G] I out of tune?
I really feel like I'm in a guitar center right [D] now.
I'm tuning with [A] two Metal Zones.
This is probably [D] the stupidest idea I've ever had for a video.
[G] Thank you.
The three's not so bad.
All right, let's move on to four.
Please still have hearing for tomorrow.
All [F] right, we got this.
[Eb] [Bb] [E] [D]
It's OK.
Kind of just sounds like a wall of noise, but
With like chugs?
That's with four.
All right, we are now at five Metal Zones.
Really pushing it to the limit here.
Oh my f***ing God.
OK, let's go.
It's starting to like have a natural phaser to the chugs.
You see leaves?
[Am] [G] [Bb]
[D] Can I do pitch remark?
[N]
Um, [D]
[N] all right.
All right, we're at one, two, three, four, five, six.
We're at six.
We're at six Metal Zones now.
I can't believe the gate is still holding.
Like, what happens if I unmute the gate?
Please brace yourself, your ears.
[Gb] It's not stopping.
There's no guitar stick.
Sounds like aliens dying.
Cool, we're going to keep the gate on.
All right, so let's try this with [D] the tone.
It sounds [G] really weird.
It sounds like it's eating itself now.
[Dm] Some weird phasing or it sounds like an octaver is almost on it.
I mean, I have to unplug the [Gb] guitar.
Still doesn't help it.
All right, [D] we're going to add more.
We're at Metal Zone number seven.
It's like an army of evil right here.
Whoa.
I feel like there's some extra bass artifacts happening now.
[Bb] OK, let's see chords.
[N] All right, well, we have one, two, three, four, five more slots left.
So I guess we're going.
We're doing more.
This is Metal Zone number eight.
Notes are becoming nothing.
Dissonance doesn't even sound like anything because the whole tone is already dissonant.
We're going to add a ninth Metal Zone.
I don't know.
I just hate my ears, apparently.
Yeah, the pinch harmonics up here don't really work.
You cannot [E] harmonic scrape.
It doesn't happen.
It [Gbm] sounds like when you're on the phone and it's [N] disconnected.
This is number 10, special number of Metal Zones.
See what we got.
I don't think at this point riffs are audible.
There's no way.
See, now we're [A] sounding like [D] black metal [C] Nokia [Bb] recorded tone.
Yeah, this is like some [F]
[C] 1980s broken amp tone.
What do you say?
[Eb] [N] Sacrificial ducks.
Yeah.
All right, let's add another one.
We're almost done.
Two more left.
We can finish this together.
We can do this.
Comment down below if you've made it this far.
This is now a challenge.
This is a do you still have your hearing challenge?
I guess this is number 11.
That's nothing.
That's literally nothing.
Honestly, it kind of just sounds like modern metal breakdown.
Can I make the noises?
I don't even have [B] to.
It just automatically makes it.
Wow, my ears hate me right now.
It's time.
The last Metal Zone slot.
Number 12, maximum distortion.
Rip [D] everyone's ears.
It's so stupid.
See, for anyone, when you have people telling you, hey, don't add too much distortion, you can show them this [G] video and be like, well, relatively, I add like zero distortion compared to what Nick did.
So add all the distortion you want because it sounds great.
Well, [C] natural harmonics weirdly work.
You can't do [E] a harmonic scrape.
[B] That's not happening.
Can I play Smoke [Am] on the Water?
[D] [A] [D] [A]
[D] [A] Copyright.
[N] And now for the final test.
I'm going to turn off the gate.
This might crash my computer.
I'm just going to play Unholy Confessions.
Why not?
Poor kid for life.
Here's Unholy Earbreaking Confessions.
Why
[E] can I still hear it?
[F] [Em] Huge [C] shred soul.
[N]
[G]
Wow.
Hearing has been degradated.
There you go.
We did an experiment.
We learned it was for metal and guitar science.
Again, I didn't use like real pedals technically or a real amp.
I'm sure there's some limitations to that.
I [E] don't know.
I'm not a f****** scientist.
I'm just a metal scientist.
So there we go.
I hope you enjoyed this experiment.
Shouldn't have done it, but it's here now.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [N] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ Wow.
_ _ _ Hearing _ _ has been degradated.

_ _ _ I played
Why?
Because I'm an idiot.
[Fm] Also, for metal and guitar, science! _ _ _ _ _
[Bbm] _ _ [C] _ _ _ _ It's already [E] so bad. _ _ _ _ _ _
[N] _ _ _ _ It's going to be terrible.

Come hang out.
We do fun metal things here.
For this experiment, I was going to use my Axe FX and just my usual guitar tone.
However, I didn't know you could only add up to two distortion pedals on an Axe FX because
it's for your safety or whatever.
Stupid!
And as far as I've researched on Google, apparently too many distortion pedals and just too much
gain in general can _ destroy all of your technology.
I'm not worried about that.
You know, it's 2023. _
[C] _ _ _ _ _ _ [E] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ [F] _ _ [E] _ _ Right, now, I want this to be realistic.
So as if you're a kid that's like 10 years old and you first walk into Guitar Center,
well, number one, you're going to first do this.
_ [Eb] _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ _ _ There you go.
Drop D.
And then the next thing you're going to obviously do is you're going to go to your
amp naturally, and you're just going to first of all bring the gain all the way up before
you even add pedals or anything.
So let's start with that.
So gain on amp _ maximized. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ [Bb] _ [F] _
[D] _ _ Squealies?
_ _ [G] _ _
[Bb] _
_ [F] _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ [Eb] _ [Bb] _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ [F] _ _ _ [G]
I don't know if Metal Zones sounded better over the years, but I didn't hate that.
All right.
So now we're going to really up the game here because we're now, instead of 10 years old,
we're 13 years old and we need to have two Metal Zones because we bought it with Christmas
money that our mom gave us because we were good kids and got good grades.
OK, do _ good in school, kids.
_ [Dm] _ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [G] _ [D] _ _ [C] _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ Yeah, definitely starting to hear tone degradation at this point.
It's still OK, though.
Like, my ears aren't bleeding.
The gate's still holding all the distortion.
What happens if I take off the gate? _
We're going to keep the gate on for this.
We're going to go to three Metal Zones now.
_ _ _ _ [Bb] _
_ [D] _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ [B] _
_ _ _ What the?
The gate did everything it could there.
So we got some noises at three, but like the tone itself, _ [Dm] _
like_
[A] _ _ _ _ Am [G] I out of tune?
I really feel like I'm in a guitar center right [D] now.
I'm tuning with [A] two Metal Zones.
This is probably [D] the stupidest idea I've ever had for a video.
[G] _ _ Thank you.
The three's not so bad.
All right, let's move on to four.
Please still have hearing for tomorrow.
All [F] right, we got this. _
[Eb] _ [Bb] _ _ _ [E] _ _ [D] _ _
_ It's OK.
Kind of just sounds like a wall of noise, but_
With like chugs? _ _ _ _
_ _ _ That's with four.
All right, we are now at five Metal Zones.
Really pushing it to the limit here.
Oh my f***ing God.
OK, let's go. _
_ _ _ _ It's starting to like have a natural phaser to the chugs.
You see leaves?
[Am] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ [Bb] _
_ _ _ _ [D] Can I do pitch remark?
[N] _
_ _ Um, _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ [N] _ all right.
All right, we're at one, two, three, four, five, six.
We're at six.
We're at six Metal Zones now.
I can't believe the gate is still holding.
Like, what happens if I unmute the gate?
Please brace yourself, your ears. _
_ _ _ _ [Gb] _ It's not stopping.
There's no guitar stick.
Sounds like aliens dying.
Cool, we're going to keep the gate on.
All right, so let's try this with [D] the tone.
It sounds [G] _ really weird.
It sounds like it's eating itself now.
[Dm] Some weird phasing or it sounds like an octaver is almost on it.
I mean, I have to unplug the [Gb] guitar.
_ _ Still doesn't help it.
All right, [D] we're going to add more.
We're at Metal Zone number seven.
It's like an army of evil right here.
Whoa.
_ I feel like there's some extra bass artifacts happening now.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Bb] OK, let's see chords. _
_ _ [N] _ All right, well, we have one, two, three, four, five more slots left.
See, now we're [A] sounding like [D] black metal [C] Nokia _ [Bb] recorded tone.
Yeah, this is like some [F] _ _
[C] 1980s broken amp tone.
_ What do you say?
[Eb] _ _ _ _ [N] Sacrificial ducks.
_ _ _ Yeah. _ _
_ _ _ All _ right, let's add another one.
We're almost done.
Two more left.
We can finish this together.
We can do this.
Comment down below if you've made it this far.
This is now a challenge.
This is a do you still have your hearing challenge?
I guess this is number 11. _ _
That's nothing.
That's literally nothing.
Honestly, it kind of just sounds like modern metal breakdown.
_ Can I make the noises? _
_ _ I don't even have [B] to.
It just automatically makes it.
Wow, my ears hate me right now.
It's time.
The last Metal Zone slot.
Number 12, _ maximum distortion.
Rip [D] everyone's ears. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ It's so stupid.
[D] _ [A] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ [D] _ [A] _ _ Copyright.
_ _ [N] And now for the final test.
I'm going to turn off the gate.
This might crash my computer.
_ I'm just going to play Unholy Confessions.
Why not?
Poor kid for life.
Here's Unholy Earbreaking Confessions.
_ _ Why _ _
_ _ _ _ [E] _ _ can I still hear it?
[F] _ _ [Em] Huge [C] shred soul. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [N] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ Wow.
