Hi, my [A] name is Eric from the band Twin Sister and we're here to record [Abm] a song
for Shaking Through.
I'm Andrea from Twin Sister and I sing.
[A] My name is Brian, I play
the drums, Deb plays keyboards, Gabe [Cm] plays bass guitar and shortwave radio.
[Ab] Hey John
are we ready to get sounds?
[A] So we're gonna quick get drum sounds.
The thing I
love about [B] Twin Sister's sound is [Ab] it's got a lot of emotion but it's also like
just chill [A] and grooving.
[D] They're creating something very [Ab] fresh.
[A] I love [Ab] how deftly
they do that.
It's never cheesy, it's always [N] totally honest.
I met Andrea when I was
turning 14 years old and she was about 16 going on 17.
We were both in separate
bands at the time and really into music.
We were just bored one day and we
decided to start writing songs together.
Brian joined the thing so then we were a
trio for a little while.
Brian moved to Austin and in that year Andrea and I
[Db] recorded a couple songs that [N] were on our first EP.
We just need Eric with a mic
like in the control room or something.
When there's a complete stop Eric can
just go like one two three four one two three no reason.
We were always friends
with Deb and Gabe from Long Island just being [Ab] different bands.
Gabe was [Dbm] helping
Deb record at the time so [A] then Eric and I started making music with Gabe.
We
decided to start [Ab] recording while Brian was in [Dbm] Texas and then when he came back
he just jumped [Db] on it.
Everyone was writing their own songs, bringing new
[Dbm] ideas to each other and we just started getting together and playing each other's
songs.
That [A] was about the time where it started really [B] feeling [D] like it was a
folk group [Ab] now.
[Dbm]
[Gb] [A] The [N]
song's called Meet the [Ab] Frownies.
Most of the time [Dbm] my favorite songs are the ones
that are [A] just jokes that we just end up [F] turning into [E] a full-blown song.
We
thought the chord progressions were hilariously [Dbm] dark and sort of cinematic
[A] or just spooky.
This [D] alternate band that wears all [G] black [Ab] and has really sterile
haircuts.
A [A] bunch of dark boys wearing turtlenecks and me [B] in like a dark cloak
and [Abm] just being really kind of goth and posh.
You're meeting the frownies.
It's
our [A] first song as the frownies I'd say.
[Ab] Our alternate personality.
[Dbm]
[A] [N] I'm thinking about it too much [Bm] now.
You can, like I said, you can make [Gb] that sound
out loud.
Sing out, you know, like when you [N] warm up your voice, do it out loud.
Okay.
You don't have to do it like silently in your head.
The idea is so
your voice is working.
Making a song in two days is something we're very not
used [A] to.
Yesterday when we were tracking, some [Cm] of those first drum sounds that we
were getting would have taken us weeks.
The [Em] way we recorded the song yesterday
is completely different from the way we usually [C] do things.
We take a very long
time.
We did figure out that sometimes just documenting how you do something
creates a layer of [Db] magic in itself that combing through the song inch by [B] inch
takes away a little bit of that at the same time.
Shit yeah, it sounds totally awesome.
It was.
Let's just switch to another track John.
We'll save that one.
Yeah, it sounded great.
[E] It just wasn't how we do things
and [B] that was [Abm] exciting.
I want to [A] switch on.
Did I accent too much?
[N] Yeah.
Yeah.
The colder the better.
Yeah, try one more time.
I'll do it.
I'll do a nice cold [Ab] take.
Yeah.
Cold.
Just completely [G] soulless.
I [D] [G] love what they do.
I want to see more of what they do.
I want to see them succeed.
I want to see them working in a [C] great studio.
Helping hands [D] is something bands
[G] don't always get.
I think that's a very [Ab] great thing that Weathervane does [G] is
give young bands this opportunity.
[Bb] The day and a [D] half that we worked on this
song we [Eb] learned so much.
It just feels good you know it feels like what you're
doing is important to someone.
People are afraid [D] of recording studios.
There is a
slight stigma on [E] studios of them being a little evil which isn't really the case.
It doesn't have to be that way.
It was a huge eye-opener [G] knowing that we [A] can feel
very [G] comfortable and just open up in a studio setting.
I think it was good to be
in a setting like this and [Cm] see what it's like to take [Ab] recording [C] this seriously on
a different level you know [G] than we've ever had experience [Cm] doing.
It got us all
excited [Ab] for the full length.
