And if you prefer your entertainment to be a bit more [A#] informal, the Festival of [D#] the City
of London starts on Monday.
There are some organised events, but a lot of the fun takes
place in the open air, and all those events are free.
[E]
[N]
So some ideas about what to do over the weekend and during the coming week.
To the sounds
of probably one of the most famous summertime songs.
And with us in the studio is the man
who took in the summertime to number one in the British charts.
Please welcome from
Mongojerry, Ray Dorsett.
[G] [C#]
Hiya.
Hi, good to be here.
How do you feel listening to that song now after 13 years?
13 years, isn't it?
Yeah, 13 years since it was number one, actually.
How does it feel to hear it?
Just the same as it always did.
You don't get sick of it?
I always get embarrassed when I hear it.
Really?
No, it's good, actually.
Yeah.
[G#] It was a phenomenal success.
I mean, it sold 22 million copies throughout [G] the world.
Yeah, it was number one.
What kind of opportunities did that make for you?
Two of the world, you know.
It was number one in about 30 countries.
So it opened up
a lot of things.
Because before the end of summertime came out, I was doing a day job.
So I was still working when it was number one.
Because [E] it was sort of an overnight success, wasn't it?
[C] Yeah, yeah.
You could say that.
It [C#] went from number [E] 13 to number one in one week and [G#] from
number 13, [G] or from nowhere to number 13, like straight [N] away.
After the Hollywood Music Festival. Yeah.
Yes, great.
Now then, this is your first single release that we're going to hear now for three
years.
What have you been doing in that three year period?
Having a break.
Wrote Kelly Marie's hit, Feels Like I'm In Love, which also went on to be
my [F] third number one.
[N] Built a recording studio and I've been writing a lot of stuff.
Making other people stars.
Well, let's hear that single out because it's called There Goes My Heart Again.
And here
he is, Ray Dossett from One Go Jerry.

[E] There goes [A] my heart again.
[F#m] I thought I'd never let it go.
Oh, [D] let me love again.
[E] There goes my heart [A] again.
[E] [A] This kind of love I've [F#m] never felt before.
[D] It's all because [E] of you.
[A]
Everything has [F#m] got a sparkle now.
[D]
Everything's brand [E] new.
[F#m] Sometimes you're helpless [F] and you just can't speak.
My thoughts are long and [Bm] not too hot for your feet.
[A] When we met, [F#m] I fell for you.
[D] You took my breath [E] away.
There [D] goes my heart again.
There goes [A] my heart again.
[F#m] I'm falling [D] in love again.
[E] There goes my heart [A] again.
If I had to, [D] I would die for you.
[Dm] If I had to, [A] I would die for you.
If I had gold, I'd give it all to you.
[Bm] I'd cry for you.
[E] There goes my heart again.

Well, those are your two children in the video.
Yeah, right.
How do you feel about them being in the business, being in the music business?
They're not in the music business.
They just happen to be around at the time when we were doing the film.
If they wanted to take it up, would you encourage them or not?
Oh, yeah.
Why not?
Yeah?
Yeah, there's lots of opportunity around for them, especially now you've got cable television coming,
you've got four TV channels, more videos.
There's more opportunity for everybody who wants to get into the business.
Right.
So, why not?
The vintage car at the beginning of the video, is that part of your collection?
No, it's not.
It's not, actually.
I've got a DB5.
Tell us about your collection.
It's not exactly a collection.
I sort of accumulate cars.
I mean, at one time, I was waiting for a taxi.
I couldn't get one, so I went across the road and bought a car to get home in.
Oh!
You know, I just do odd things, you know.
So, I've collected kind of cars by things like, one day I drove a car through [G] a wall, so I had to go and get one the next day.
Then I'll rebuild the car [Dm] that went through the wall.
Like the Aston Martin, [N] I spent a lot of time rebuilding that.
You've got your own recording studio as well.
Yeah.
What kind of advantages does that make for you?
It's really good, because I spent so much time in studios before, and then when you start paying for your own studio time, it becomes very expensive.
That's right.
And for me, because I'm so diverse with my songwriting, I find that I do need to use a lot of studio time.
That's a good advantage.
Yeah, right.
We could talk all morning, [C] but unfortunately we've run out of time.
But a big thank you, please, to Ray Dorsett from Mungojerry!
