Hi, I'm [E] Bradley [Eb] Kunder and I'm delighted to announce the release of MuseScore 4.2.
This update marks a massive milestone for guitarists, or any composer who works with guitar parts.
[Ab] We've introduced an [C] extensive new [Eb] system for guitar [G] bends, with [Dm] beautiful engraving
and [Eb] highly realistic playback.
[Gb] 4.2 also brings other significant features for everyone, [E] including valuable [F] improvements
for scores with multiple parts [G] and much [F] more.
But let's [E] start with those exciting guitar [Db] bends.
[Gb] You can now [F] quickly [G] enter four main [Bb] kinds of bends [Eb] directly from the guitar [Gb] palette,
or [Eb] via customisable [Bb] keyboard shortcuts.
Both [A] the pitch [E] and the playback [G] speed of bends can be subtly [E] adjusted by clicking and dragging
[D] this new interactive curve in the properties panel, [Gb] which is also fully [N] accessible using
the keyboard alone. _
Multiple [Eb] bend release [D] sequences, _ microtonal bends, _ unison bends and [Db] bends on chords are
all [D] possible and are all [Eb] notated [G] with beautiful industry standard engraving.
And [Ab] to make these [Gb] bends sound as good as they look, we're excited to [Bb] introduce _ [G] _ [Db] MuseSounds
[Ab] Guitars Volume 1, a [F] brand new [E] free library of carefully [Ab] sampled high [Ebm]
quality guitars,
which sound [C] like this.

_ To get your free copy of [D] MuseSounds Guitars [B] Volume 1, simply update [Dm] to the latest version
of the MuseHub, where you [C] can also update your MuseScore desktop software [D] to version 4 [C].2.
Guitar scores will [Ebm] also benefit from our new system for [G] alternate tunings.
[E] Simply drag and [D] drop this tunings element [Ab] from the guitar palette to [Gb] specify any [Bb] kind
of string tuning you [Ab] like.
The engraving [F] element [Bb] updates automatically [E] and the fret positions in any [Eb] linked tablature
stave will [Gb] reflect the new open [C] string pitches.
[D] To learn more about [Eb] these features, check the rest of our YouTube channel for dedicated
[D] tutorial videos, [Ab] and please [Eb] also read our handbook pages for [E] detailed instructions on
how they can be [Bb] used.
Links [E] for these are in the description below.
In [C] MuseScore 4.2, it's now [E] possible to separately synchronise the position and the styling of
notation elements between [Db] the main [D] score and parts.
For example, I may wish to move these [Ab] dynamics above [Db] the vocal stave so they don't push
the text too far away from [G] the singer's [E] notes.
These changes in the [Gb] score are now automatically reflected in the parts.
I can also [G] correct the position of these [Eb] slurs in a part and [Gm] they instantly become _ [E] desynchronised
from the main [F] score, so I don't have to worry about unexpected [Bm] layout changes [C] there.
I [E] can also do [Eb] things like _ [B] exclude these [Eb] clefs from the parts so that they [D] only appear in
the main [G] score, leaving fewer clef changes for the players.
And using these [E] new toggle switches in the properties [Eb] panel, I [Bb] can [E] easily _ [F] resynchronise
both the position and [Db] the style of any of these [F] elements so they return [Db] to how they
look in the main score.
[F] All this gives you much greater [D] control over your [Fm] project, allowing you [E] to style part scores
[Gbm] exactly as you need without inadvertently affecting the main [G] score.
There are a ton of further [E] engraving updates in MuseScore 4.2, [F] including some long-awaited
improvements to how arpeggio [Gb] lines span chords across staves.
They now [D] intelligently switch between voices [Gb] and [F] carefully avoid any _ encroaching _ [Gb] accidentals.
Ties can now also [Eb] be drawn [Bb] either inside [Db] or outside note heads [E] for both single notes and
chords [Ebm] via these new style settings. _
[Bb] On the playback [A] front, you can [Gb] now select individual _ sounds within [C] sound [Gb] fonts via this
[Eb] new menu in the [A] mixer, [Eb] and we've organised our [G] default [F] library, _ msBasic, into sensible
[G] categories, making it easier for you to substitute [Eb] an instrument's sound.
And speaking of playback, _ microtonal [Gb] accidentals now [E] play back [Eb] in MuseScore 4.2.
Just [E] add them [Ebm] from the accidentals [E] palette and their requisite tuning will be [Ebm] configured _ automatically.
[Bm] You can now [Eb] choose a score on MuseScore.com and it'll open _ directly in the desktop [G] app.
[E] There's a new minimised [Eb] view for your cloud [A] scores in the [E] scores page, which also [D] displays
helpful information [Eb] like their visibility status. _
[E] In addition, [G] we've improved [F] the integration [Gb] with audio.com, so you [Eb] can now replace your
existing audio tracks when updating [E] your scores.
_ In our last update, it became possible [G] to read scores [D] using a braille reader.
[Ab] In MuseScore [E] 4.2, [G] not only can you read [D] braille music [E] notation, but also write [D] in braille music notation.
[E] For more info, check out our live braille [Fm] features video, as well as [G] the [Em] MuseScore handbook.
On top of all these new features, [Gb] MuseScore 4 [G].2 comes with literally [E] hundreds of bug [Eb] fixes
[F] and interaction and engraving [Gb] refinements, and we're [E] really grateful for the work of
many [Ebm] of our community [F] members who assisted not [Eb] only with testing, [G] but also with [E] contributing
[F] some highly [Eb] requested [D] and much needed [C] updates.
In particular, [Gb] we now have a [E] tempo and primo tempo [F] elements in [G] the palettes, [F] thanks [Eb] to remitibo.
As you'd expect, [B] adding these [Eb] returns playback [E] to earlier defined tempi, or whichever [C] tempo
you decide to set in properties.
_ [G]
There are a [E] multitude [D] of refinements [B] to key [Bb] signatures, time [D] signatures [Ab] and parts, [E] courtesy
[G] of Samuel [C] _
Miklosch.
And you can [F] now import and export scores in the _ [Ab] MEI file format, [Eb] thanks to the work of
[F] Laurent Pugin [G] and Klaus Rettinghaus.
If you have the [Gb] MuseHub installed, then the latest [Eb] version of MuseScore [Ab] is only a click away.
_ Alternatively, you can always download [Ebm] MuseScore 4.2 from our [Cm] website, _
[C] musescore.org, which
is [F] also the home of our _ [Dm] extensive [F] handbook, a joint project of [G] both the MuseScore [F] team
and the [Eb] MuseScore [A] community.
_ Please [D] subscribe to this channel to receive updates about forthcoming releases, [A] and thank
[E] you for using [Ab] MuseScore.
