Musician reacts to Currents - Better Days chords
Start Jamming...
Hello, my name is Steve, I'm a musician, and today I'll be listening for the very first time
to a song called Better Days by an artist called Currentz.
I've never heard of Currentz before.
Someone recommended me this based on some other video I reacted to from some other band.
So I
don't know anything about this.
Literally nothing.
So I'm excited.
I'll have to do some new music.
And
go!
[Am] So we got one guitar, and we've got a [Em] kind of chord [Bm] synth sound in the [Em] background.
Oh!
[E] Already into an epic full band moment.
[Am]
[Em] [F#] Kick drum pedal hitting every [Em] single eighth note.
Okay, singer's got a good voice.
[Am]
[Em] [B] [Em]
[E] Hmm, variety of vocal delivery.
[Am] Some falsetto, some head voice.
[Em] Oh yes! Oh!
[E] This is so bad!
[G] [Em] That was delicious!
[Am] Nice!
[Em] [B]
[E]
[A] [Am] This piano, this bass, this [Em] guitar, there's a lot
many [F#] layers.
[Em]
Cool.
[E] Screen vocal, [Am] but low in the mix.
It could sound like he's [Em] yelling from far away.
[B] [Em]
There's so many different [Am] kind of styles of musicianship in this.
[Em] [F#]
[E] Loving that!
[C] The choices [A] they're making in their chords are amazing.
[B]
[E] That lead guitar sounds nice.
It reminds me of uh, Thrice, [C] the tone of their lead guitar sometimes.
[E]
[Em] [E]
[Am] Interesting.
[Em] [B]
Epic chorus.
[Em] Again, the kick drum pedal is hitting [E] every single eighth note.
[Am] Relentless.
[Em] [Bm]
[Em]
[Am] [Em] [G]
[Em] [E]
[Am] Oh!
Sliding down the uh, [Em] press.
[F#]
[Em]
Enjoying the jewel [E] vocal track.
[Em] Screen vocals on some [Bm] other angle.
I have this [Em] person singing like Euphoria.
The guitar is very [Bm] complicated.
[Am] [Em] Surely that's two different [G] guitars.
Oh!
Back [E] [Em] to [B] that motif played by [Am] the guitar.
[Em] [G]
[Em]
Well that was epic!
[N] That had a lot, that had a lot going on in it.
Um, where to begin?
Uh, I don't even know where to begin.
There are moments of this grand epic chorus,
um, meaningfully sung, which was cool and enjoyable.
It felt, I mean, singing about
Euphoria felt somewhat oddly euphoric in its own way.
Sure, that was intentional.
Before the first chorus though, there was this like mad riffage with some really high, almost
like mathcore, like lead guitar bits, which was like, oh cool.
I expected them to do that again
before the second time they went to the chorus, and they didn't!
It was a totally different pre-chorus
second time around.
So they're going away from your standard kind of song writing blocks.
They're
kind of guiding the song in a different way, making it [C#] more interesting, to my ears at least.
That [D#] was cool.
I enjoyed that.
Great scream vocal, um, and the variety of ways that they were doing that.
Sounded like a very good vocalist.
I mean, obviously it's hard to tell when you're listening
to a recording, because you can produce these things, but that sounded to me like they had a
really solid voice to begin with, um, and you can add some very minimal production to make that sound
even better.
[N] That was great.
Clearly the guitarist is mad talented.
Um, there was like sweet picking
as well as great riffage, uh, full chords and insanely complex, like, lead moments.
Um, yeah, that was
great.
I couldn't really, I wasn't really paying attention to what the bass was doing.
I'm sure it
was great.
The drummer was, uh, doing a very good job of not overcrowding the song, because it needed to
have that space to have that epic sound.
It's a slow tempo, so you don't want to just be like
busy all the time, unless you're a god like Vessel 2 in Sleep Token.
He can be as busy as he likes.
It always sounds amazing.
Um, but I thought what the drummer did in this really worked for the song.
Um, that was great.
Hey, better days.
Tune.
Currents!
I need to listen to some more Currents, I think.
That was great.
I'm gonna stop saying great.
That was, um, let's think of a more interesting word.
Hmm.
Elegant and magnificent.
That's what that was.
Marvelous.
Well, thank you to whosoever
recommended that I reckon listen to Currents.
I can't remember.
Uh, I'll have to look you up later on.
But thank you for that.
Thank you to you for watching.
Thank you to [G#] Currents for a wonderful
[G] tune that came out, apparently, in June of last year.
Um, great.
Again with the great.
Maybe I'll see you
in [F] another video.
