Stay around, _ _ [C] stay [G] around girl
J.J. Kell was [Gm] one of those [G] leading figures that you could just call me the breeze and just chill out to
because it's big planes music, it's perfect for just sitting back for 20 [C] minutes of vinyl
and just, the [C] songs just ran naturally one thing into another
His songs [G] were basically blues music, I mean they were very [G] simple songs
and he just interpreted in a way that anyone could get inside a J.J. Kell song
it wasn't complicated and he [Bb] managed to get a groove element into [C] something which was very linear [Em] _ [G] and smooth
Cocaine came along [F] as a sort of, [C] firstly it's a kind of anthemic song because it's a drug which is still [G] to this day extremely popular
so it's a kind of, [C] what do you look for in a song title, you look for a catchphrase, you look for something
[G] that everyone might have bumped into or thinking about in some way or another
so it was successful in that respect
The guitar style of J.J. Kell probably appealed to Eric Clapton, [Bb] he'd tell you that more [C] himself
but as I said earlier, there's [G] a fundamental blues element running through J.J. Kell's music
which obviously Eric could find himself in, you know, tonally, easily as well
and it was very much a guitar player, J.J. Kell, even though he [G] wasn't like a dexterous rapid guitar player
he had a very special sound which was his, and I don't know if you're aware he had this, these wacky guitars
he had like a $50 Harmony guitar that he stripped the back off and glued different [Dm] pickups in it
he managed to [C] find the marriage between sound and harmony [G] and melody in a way which created the climate
which is what any [G] producer would [C] hope for from a record
It's interesting that a musician actually takes control of how to [F] record and make music
which is happening to a great extent [G] now with a lot of musicians who have finally got their own computer
and their own way of discovering and playing with, they don't have to go through an engineer to do what they want
you know, to hear what they want to hear, which is [G] great, it's totally changed the [Bb] way we make records
but J [D].J. Kell is probably an [G] innovator in that respect, he was one of the first, you know
very successfully, just because I think he had the marriage between what he wanted to hear, [Bm] what he wanted to say
[Em] and it was like watching a road movie every time, listening to a J [G].J. Kell thing
you just saw big open [Em] plains and long highways stretching off in the distance
and if you look at his covers, even though of his albums they're very different
they [G] all have something about that in them, he's like a musical hobo in a way
but he [D] was like the godfather of chill
