Joining me now is Dan McCaffrey of Nazareth.
So, 14 years and [B] 17 albums.
[E] Aye, aye.
Now, [Gm] did you ever imagine [C] that [F] you would have that [B] longevity?
No, what we did was, [C#m] we're up in Scotland at [A] that time, [B] you know, people, I mean a lot of Scottish bands have done a lot [C#m] since then.
But originally we [C#] came [G#m] down to London and we got all [E] the Heather and the Ear jokes and everything else.
But we decided we'd have [F] to give it a go, [G#m] because we were writing our own stuff and we were doing quite well in Scotland, you know, getting quite a [G#] good following.
[E] So we said we'll have to give it a shot and we'll give it a year and see what happens.
You know, [C#] we've sort of been doing that ever since really.
Giving it another year.
Give it another [B] year and see what happens, you know.
But, I mean, now that Scottish bands [C#m] are very much to the fore in those early days, it [D#] was sort of a little [B]
unfashionable to be Scottish.
Aye, it wasn't very [A] cool in real life to be Scottish, but, well, things change all the time.
Now, because you were around, I [G#] suppose a lot of people now would describe your music as heavy metal.
Oh yes.
But I think you probably [C#] predated.
Yes, we were.
Heavy metal was made up [Bm] after we'd sort of had [A] a couple of hits.
I guess we were just a [C#] hard rock band really.
Most of our influences were early rock [Bm] and roll, Chuck Berry and [A] early Presley stuff.
[C#] And then we got, when we first came down to London, I mean, people [B] were like Led Zeppelin were just starting to happen.
And bands like that, you know, [Bm] it was really quite an exciting, [E] spooky time.
How did you get [F#] your first break then?
The first big break?
Well, [C#] there was our original manager, Bill Fahilly, who got killed in a [B] plane crash.
He wanted to get into [Bm] the sort of show business and stuff.
[A] And he sort of brought us down.
[F#m] And what we did was we saved up money and we made [C#] an album.
And took it round to companies thinking we'd get the usual, [B] you know, thanks but no thanks.
And [F#m] people wanted it, you know.
[G#] It was as big a surprise to us, I suppose.
[A#m] And [G#] basically
