Needtobreathe - Brother (piano tutorial & cover) chords
Start Jamming...
If you haven't listened to Need To Breathe, all one word, before, they are just incredible.
So they've just released their new album Rivers In The Wasteland and one of the last tracks is
called Brother and yeah, if you see me in the mornings on the way to work, you'll see me
absolutely belting this out at the top of my voice as I'm going down the road.
So here's how you play
Fairly simple to start off with, we're just starting in the chord of B [B]
and then he just
plays just an E on its own, [E] G minor, G sharp minor [Abm] sorry, and he just plays alone C sharp minor
[Db] and does that [B] again, B,
[Abm] G sharp minor and
[Db] [B] that's how it goes for the entirety of the first [E] verse
[Abm]
[Db]
[Abm]
and then going into the chorus, plays this beastie F sharp down the bottom.
If you can't
see [Ab] my pinky, I'm just playing the same note as my thumb, F sharp, [Gb] chord of E, this is the [E] chorus
[B] B, F sharp over A [Bbm] sharp, G sharp minor, [Abm] [Gb]
F sharp, same [E] again, E, [B] B, [Bbm] F sharp over A sharp, G sharp minor,
[Abm]
[Gb] F sharp.
[Am] Then he plays that funky little bit on the piano [E] before the next verse and that just goes
like this, goes E, B over D [B] sharp, C sharp minor, [Dbm] C sharp minor, [B] B, F sharp [Gb]
and full speed, [E] E, B over D
sharp, C sharp minor, C [B] sharp minor, B, [Gb] F sharp.
Then it goes into the second [B] verse, ever so slightly
different from the first verse, actually playing full on chords this time, so B, [Gb] then F sharp,
[Abm] G sharp minor, [E] E, [B] B, F sharp, [Abm] G sharp minor, E, [B] B, F [Abm] sharp, G sharp minor, [E] E, [B] B, [Gb] F sharp and then G sharp minor
then he does B over D [Ebm] sharp and [Eb] going into the second [E] chorus, then the same as before.
Now instead of going into that piano bit, going into the next verse, it goes straight into the
bridge and for most of the bridge we're just going to be rocking out in B minor or B minor 7th.
So let's start off with that piano bit playing in octaves, you're just going to be playing B
in your left hand and these are the notes for [B] the right hand, so just B in the left hand, D, B, C sharp, A, [B] B, G sharp, E, F sharp, G sharp, [E] A,
[Bm] F sharp, D, [B] E, F sharp, B and [Gbm] then
and then
[B] with your left hand you're just going to roll down to, you can do this an octave below, F, [E] E, [D] G,
[B] E and then it goes into the bit with the vocals coming and you're going to be playing B minor [Bm] 7th
[B] [Bm]
and then B.
[B]
You're going to do that roll in your left hand again and that does the piano riff again
[E] [Bm]
then it goes straight into [B] another chorus.
In your left hand you can [D] do [Eb] D, G sharp, [E] E.
[B]
[Bbm] [Abm]
[Ab] Etc and there you go, those are all the bits that you need to know how to play
Brother by Need To Breathe.
Go back to the cover to see how they all fit together.
See ya!
