[A] [E]
Well, I think my life has changed [A] and headed [E] toward the sunshine and it's just where my
head is at at this point in my life and [B] it's heading in a very positive direction.
[Eb] That's what this album is [E] made up of, it's feelings about what my life is and kind of
how I've reached this point in [C] it.
[D] [C]
Melody Road,
[Dm] I'm on with [C] you [Dm] all the way to [G] the end.
[C] I know every [G] song you lead me [F] to [C] is gonna [F] be my [G] friend.
Don [C] is one of the top producers in the world [Dm] and he's also [C] one of the top people [Dm] in the
world just as a human being.
[G] Jack Knife, I had never met him [C] before but we set up a meeting [G] at my studio [Dm] and he [G] was very good.
[C] Find me some words that [G] feel [F] just right.
[C] The music's gonna [G] come from [C] Melody Road.
Let's make a record.
Garrett, good luck, let's make a record.
There we go.
Okay?
[F] [C] It was very much a [F] team effort.
I'm [C] not sure I have worked with two [F] separate producers before.
[C] We were thrown in [F] completely unfamiliar waters by [C] working together.
Everything was new for all [F] of us, you know, working together.
[C] Some of the musicians [F] Jack and I knew, some of [G]
them I knew, they hadn't all played together.
There was a lot of risk involved.
We didn't [C] really know who to start with.
[F]
But [C] the thing that made it a safe bet [F] is that Neil [Eb] is such a strong artist.
He's just amazing, man.
He's got an incredible presence and a really strong artistic point of view.
[D]
[G]
[D] [A]
I'm still [D] amazed at the concept of a piece of [G] music.
When you unearth a song, it's a [D] stunning discovery to you, as though you [A] haven't done it before
hundreds of times.
But you still have the [D] same feeling each time it happens.
So [G] it's a miracle.
[A] I've been going through the lyrics and trying to think, is there a storyline that runs through this?
[D] The whole piece?
Yeah.
Don said, this is a concept and this is a very personal concept and I [G] think you should
be thinking of it like that.
And I didn't when [D] we first started.
[A] I haven't given that any thought.
I've just let it happen.
The whole experience of writing it.
Your life and [D] the songs are kind of inextricable.
[Am] And then it's really, I think it's about [Dm] meeting someone and having an affair or a marriage
or whatever and it falls apart [N]
and then learning from it and [Eb] finding something new that works.
That seems to [Dm] be the motif.
[C]
I'm pretty [Dm] clear that this is a journey.
And it's really [Am] very similar to the way he [Dm] presented it to us in [C] the Raws demo [B] form.
Think of it [C] as a [Dm] story arc, which I suspect you [C] already [Dm] have.
[C] I think you may be giving me too much credit.
I was just going alphabetically.
Is that true?
No.
[F] [G] After living with him [C] for a while, I realized he was right and [G] we moved ahead on [C] that premise
that these [G] songs would tell a [C] story.
It has a beginning [G] and a middle.
And [C] one of the things that this [F] doesn't have, it doesn't [G] have an end.
It's an ongoing story, I think.
[F] [C] [F] [Dm]
