Neon Moon - Brooks and Dunn - Guitar Lesson and Tutorial chords
Start Jamming...
Neon Moon is a great classic number one hit for Brooks and Dunn and it was written by Ronnie Dunn.
It's in the key of A.
We have no capo on either guitar.
The acoustic guitar part is pretty straightforward.
Just have three chords in the key of A and one easy strum pattern.
On the electric guitar
we have some fun stuff that includes a really kind of iconic recognizable guitar solo.
We'll do some chicken picking and we'll have a lot of fun with that.
[A]
Comes to my door, [D] the whole world turns.
[F#] Moon.
[C] [A] [E] Run down the [F#] bar, cross the railroad [E] tracks.
Watch [D] your broken dreams dance [E] in the night of the beams [F#] of the neon moon.
[C#] [E] [A]
[C#] [E] [C#]
[D] [F#m] [D]
[E]
When the sun goes down on my side of town,
A lonesome feeling comes to my door.
[D] The whole world turns.
[E] Moon.
For Neon Moon on the acoustic guitar we're in the key of A.
We've got three chords.
We've got this A2 chord, [D] a D chord, just a standard D, and a standard E.
So let's [A] quick buzz through these.
The A2 is actually easier to play than a standard A chord.
[E]
[B] But you can really hear that [E] open B string ringing out on that recording.
We're going to play an A2.
I like to reach around with my thumb and mute this low E string.
If that's not comfortable for you, you don't have to worry about it.
Just try not to hit it.
It's not a big deal if you do.
It is in the chord.
So we'll mute that low E.
[A] Then we'll have the open A string, second fret of D, second fret [E] of G, open B, open high E.
For [D] the D it's just a standard D chord.
So we're going to start on the open D string, second fret of G, third fret of the top of the [E] verse.
Down, up, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, up, down, up, down, up.
Two more times on the A.
Now we're going to go to the D.
Alright, we're going to go over everything except for the guitar solo in this tutorial.
And most of what we're doing through the whole song is a pattern.
And a lot of it over the verses is this kind of pattern.
[A]
[E] [A] [F#] Then we'll apply that to D chords [D] and [Em] E [E] chords.
[C#] Alright, very cool solo here.
It's not very long, so it won't take forever to learn.
But it's very tasteful, got a lot of cool things.
It's a very authentically country solo.
Got some good hybrid chicken picking going on.
For tone, I'm going to keep it on my neck pickup.
We really want to dial up a nice country blues tone.
[D] You really don't need much gain on there at all.
It's pretty clean.
Maybe a little bit of reverb and some compression.
So I'll play it once, nice and slow all the way through, but in tempo.
Then we'll go note by note, and then turn on the metronome and play it at full speed.
Here's how it looks.
[C#] [B] [A]
[Em] [A]
[D] [F#] One, two, go.
[E] [C#] [A] [C#] [B]
[D] [F#m] [D#] [D]
[E] [D]
[D]
[E] [F#]
