Excited to be able to say this, will you please welcome
Pom from New York Gold, Sylvain, Sylvain and David Johanson.
[C] [D]
[G] [C] [D]
[G] New [D] York Gold, yes.
Here we go, that's a lot.
Yes, the [N] Metropolitan.
What did you think, fellas?
You think they did it justice?
Wow, fantastic.
The Debonairs.
[F] Hey, how great to see you.
Now, you could at least have made some sort of effort
knowing you were coming on this show this evening.
That's a great, that's a full on turban you've got on there, David.
I'm honoring Esquerida today.
You want to be careful, you don't want to try and fly with that
and they'll stop you and search you, you know that, don't you?
No, they don't stop and search me.
They just figured, no, can't be, go, just go.
[C#m] Guys, it's a thrill for me to have you here.
I'm a big fan of the New York Dolls.
I have been since I first discovered you in the mid 70s.
That seems like a long time ago.
And it is, I guess.
When did you guys first get together?
You are 75 years old, aren't you?
Now, you see, that can get you ousted from the couch.
[F] When did you first get together?
When did the band form?
Uh, I don't know.
72?
71 actually.
[N] If you want history, yes.
I don't remember.
Why did you make David answer if you knew the answer?
He still remembers everything.
Didn't you once get arrested for impersonating a woman?
Well, it was in Memphis, as I recall.
Right?
But you were an impersonated woman.
I wasn't.
I was kind of dressed like Liza Minnelli at the time.
He invited everybody on the stage and he got arrested for that in Memphis,
Tennessee.
But they pegged it on dressing like Liza Minnelli.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I had to go to jail dressed like Liza Minnelli.
And Memphis jail is not Mayberry.
It's a real jail.
I should imagine Liza Minnelli's probably been to jail dressed as Liza Minnelli as well.
I don't know if she has been at any time.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
Come and sit back down, David.
Oh, I thought he was a close friend of Liza Minnelli's, Alan.
[F] I'm setting him for that.
I thought he was storming off.
I was just like the young Liza.
Yeah.
You know what?
Are you guys, I'm assuming, being older gentlemen
with a great deal of common sense, maybe not in the dress department, but certainly
to each his own.
You guys are clean of substances these days, or do you still have a dab?
Or because in a way, it was the rock and roll excess that did for so many of your
well, yeah, but I mean, it was really it was just the time.
And and and, you know, it's sort of like that telephone conversation,
you know, when it gets handed down and through the years where we look like
a bunch of bad ass junkies, but we weren't really.
Yeah.
You know, I was begging for morphine backstage, but no one would give me.
And I said, well, if you haven't got morphine, I'll take a halcyon.
You kind of take it and you you're here, but you're not really here.
You don't remember it.
So it's kind of weird, though, that some people, you know, the drugs,
everyone [E] tries drugs at some stage of their life.
Perhaps some [F#] people do lose themselves completely.
But others, it doesn't seem to grip in the same way.
Were you lucky enough to go the same way as the other guys?
Or do you think it just didn't work for your body chemistry in that respect?
What you want to talk science?
You mean like I think, [F] you know, some people are have like
are genetically predisposed to like two guys, right?
They both get really fucked up.
And one guy says, oh, hold on.
Are these scientific terms you're using here?
[N] Two guys are sitting in a room.
They both get loaded, right?
One guy says, I'm not going to do that again till New Year's Eve or something.
And the other one says, where's the stuff?
You know?
Yeah.
So it's just really kind of a predisposition.
And you were lucky to be the guy who waited till New Year's Eve.
Not particularly.
Well, there goes the theory.
No, the theory is correct, but I'm not the guy to prove it.
The new album by the New York Dolls.
And I'm so pleased to be able to say that it's so exciting.
You guys got new album.
It's it's out right now.
It's got some great stuff on it.
And you have some great people with you.
You have Michael Stipe working on the album with you, I believe.
Yes.
Iggy Pop.
Iggy Pop.
Wow.
Great bunch of people.
It's great to have you here.
I'm looking forward to seeing you perform live for us.
Ladies and gentlemen, will you join me in saying thank you
before they perform live for you?
To David Johansson and Sylvain Chouin.
Thank you, England.
Thank you, United Kingdom.
You guys have been so
