[G#m] [G] [G#]
[Bm]
[G#] [A]
[G#] It's a spinning round [G] me, and [G#] all my thoughts are [B]
cloudy, [Bm] and I have begun to doubt all
[A] the things that were me.
[G#m] Been in so many [C#] places, in the wild from so many [Bm] races, I've looked in the empty faces
[A] of the people of the night, and [G] something is just [A] not right, cause [Em] I know [F#m] that I gotta
get out of [A] here.
I'm so [F#m] alone, [A] don't you know [F#m] that I gotta get [D] out of here, [Em] you're not [A] my home.
[F#] [A]
[E] [A] Here are the chords needed for the verse section.
It starts off based off an A chord, and then you're going to walk down one of the notes
on the fourth string, and I didn't bother to really name those chords, cause you can
really name them three different ways, cause they're just three note chords.
So, [D] that's the first opening section, and then you'll take it into a B minor chord,
an F minor, flat 5, and an A.
These chords are needed, along with the A, for the chorus section.
F sharp minor, E, and [B] D.
So, let's take a look at the chords that are needed.
That very first [A] chord is based off an A chord, so an A bar chord, or this bottom four shape
of that A chord.
It's just these two notes, so it's the fourth and third strings of that A chord.
Then what happens is, the fourth string [G#m] note goes [C#m] down, and that other note just stays the [G#] same.
So, it [C#] goes down again to this shape, [F#]
one more time, [E] and then the first finger up, when
you're in this position, just [C#m] moves up one string.
So, those are the [F#] odd shapes that are part of this song.
[C] You hit a C passing note, into [Bm] a B minor chord, [A]
[C] and then you've got [F] that F minor, flat
[Em] 5, which is basically just like that.
You're just hitting these [F] two notes.
[E] [A] Then you'll need an A.
I play it in this version.
It just makes it easier for the song.
[F#m]
F sharp [E] minor, E, [D] and there's also a quick D, [A] too, up here.
[G#]
[C#] [G#]
[Bm] [F] [F#]
[A] [F#]
[C#]
And [G#] all my thoughts were cloudy, [Bm] and I [F] had begun [Bm] to doubt all [A] the things that were me.
[F#]
[E] Been in so many [G] places, [C#] you know I've run [G#] so many races.
[Bm] I've looked into the empty faces [A] of the people of the [F#] night, and something is just not [A] right,
cause I know [F#m] that I gotta get out of [A] here.
I'm so [F#m] alone, [A]
don't you [F#m] know that I gotta get [D] out of here, cause [B] New York's [A] not my home.
[F#]
[A] [E]
[B] Though [G#m] all the streets are [G] crowded, there's [G#] something strange [C] about [Bm] it.
I've lived here about a year, and I never [A] once felt at home.
[F#] [E] Thought I'd make the big [G] time, I've learned a lot of [G#] lessons awful quick, and now [Bm] I'm
telling you that they were not the nice [A] kind.
And it's been so long since [E] I have felt fine.
[A]
That's the [F#m] reason that I gotta get out [A] of here.
I'm [F#m] so alone, [A]
don't you know [F#m] that I gotta get [B] out of here, cause New York's not [A] my home.
[E]
[A] Let's look at the very first section of the verses.
It starts off with the A9 chord, [F#m]
[G#m]
[C#]
[F#m] [B] [C#]
[C]
[A#] and then it goes down to the B minor.
[Em] So that first part, it starts at the A minor, and [F#m] you're plucking 4 3 2, 4 3 2, 4 3,
[B] and [G#] then that repeats for the next shape, [C#] next shape, same.
And then when you get down to that [F#] fourth shape, you're just plucking 4 3 2,
and then [A#] you drop your first finger up to the [C#] fifth string, [F#] and so it's 5 [F#] 3 2,
and then down [C] to the C note,
[B] and then you do the B minor chord.
The picking pattern on the B minor is slightly different.
It goes 5 [Bm] 3 2, 5 3 2 3 4.
[E] When you get down to the F minor, flat 5, it's similar.
[F]
It's 6 3 2, 6 3 2 [G#] 3 4,
and the A is [A] 5 3 2, 5 3 2 3 4.
[Gm] So the whole section sounds [B] like this, [Bm]
[F] [A]
[B]
[E] and then into the riff.
[C] So there's a lot of different ways you can play this riff, but basically it starts [E] off,
open [F#] E, hammer on to the F sharp on the [A] second fret, open A,
[E]
slide up from 2 to 4 and back to 2 real quick,
[B] [A] open A, [F#] back to the F sharp, [E]
and then E.
So that's the most basic way.
Now whether you want to slide or hammer on, I don't think it matters.
So [C] you can also change it and [B] play a different A on the way [E] down like this.
So there's a couple different ways.
You just have to experiment and play the way that's most comfortable [F#] for you.
There's a little fill that can be played in the beginning of the verses, and it sounds like this,
[E] [Em]
[G#] [C] [E] and then into the normal picking of the verses.
[A] What I'm doing there, I'm plucking the first and fourth [E] strings,
following up with the second string,
[Em]
[G#] [C#]
[B] and then back to normal after that.
Let's look at the little chords that happen right before you get to the chorus.
It starts off the first verse of the line,
[A] People of the night, [C#] something is just [A] not right,
Because I know that [F#m] I gotta get out [A] of here, and into the chorus.
So from that People of the Night chord, the A,
People of the [G#] night, [F#m] and something, F sharp minor, [E] is just not [A] right.
[B] So from the E, I'm walking [F#] up [G#] F sharp, [E] G sharp, back to the A.
[A]
So, People of the night, [F#] and something is [G#] just not [A] right,
Because I know that [C] I gotta get out of here.
There's a transition between [G#] sets of verses that sounds [A] like this.
[E] [A]
[E] [A]
[G#m] [C#]
[E] The transition starts off as an [A] A chord,
on and off of the third fret of the second string,
[B] fourth [E] fret, third string, and then fifth fret, second string.
So the melody [G#] is, [E]
so notice I'm keeping my third finger on that note on the third string.
And then the bass line goes, [B]
[A] [E] which is open E, [F#] second fret, sixth [B] string,
second fret, fifth string, [A] and then to the A.
So the [E] second time you do it, [F#m]
you go back to the verses immediately.
[Em] Because on that [A] A note, instead of hitting the open A,
you want to hit, you want to be there on that B.
So it's
[F#] [B] [G#] [G]
