Norman's Rare Guitars - Guitar of the Day: 1934 Martin 000-45 chords
Start Jamming...
Hey everybody, Mark Agnesi here again in the back room of Norman's Rare Guitars, Guitar
McGeaden, day four.
[A]
Here's the deal, we don't know what's going on.
So we're going to continue to try and do [G] business as usual.
We're going to try and continue to do guitar of the day as usual.
But next week is a crap sheet, man.
It could be a one or two day thing, we could be closed all week, we could be closed the
week after, we could be back in [A] business, we don't know.
You guys will know as soon as we know, because we're doing stuff every day in here.
So again, before we move anything out, there's certain guitars that I just need to make sure
get chronicled on this series.
This one is another one.
Yesterday we did the Gibson Advanced Jumbo, which I hope you all [Bbm] enjoyed.
That's a [A] magnificent guitar.
What we got today is something [G] really special.
[A]
Even more magnificent than that.
Come on back.
This is from 1934.
[N]
This is a Martin 00045.
[A] Yep, that is pretty sweet.
So this is the first year of the 00045.
Up until this point, it was still the OM45.
This is the first year of production when they switched the name to 000.
A couple cool things about this guitar though.
First off, it's a first year production.
According to the Mike Longworth book, they made about 14 of these, I believe, in 1934.
But when they changed the name to 000 from OM, they obviously [A] changed from the little
teardrop shaped OM pickguard to the larger sized 000 pickguard.
But what's really cool about this on the first year is these are still OM scale length.
So the big [F] difference really between the OMs and the 000s is the scale.
So the 000s are normally a little bit shorter scale.
This is a full 25 [N].4 inch scale.
So this is a 000 with OM scale length, which basically means this guitar is a pickguard
away from being an OM45.
Now with the 45s, if you want to zoom in here, you'll notice you get the beautiful abalone
and pearl work all the way around the body and down the neck joint, around the sound
hole, but also on the sides and also on the back as well.
All the joints, basically anywhere there's binding on the guitar, you will see that beautiful pearl.
We got Brazilian rosewood, gorgeous straight grain Brazilian rosewood on the back with
an Adirondack spruce top, ebony board, ebony bridge, snow fake inlays, of course the iconic
CF Martin inlaid on the headstock.
This is about as cool as they get guys.
This is top of the line.
Why don't we go out front, see what this thing can do.
All right, we're out front here.
Here we have the 1934 Martin 00045 and I'm going to put it through the paces a little bit.
I don't know about you, anytime I see a pearl top Martin in this shape, there's only one
thing that comes to mind for me.
