Hey, we're Sugarland.
Welcome to sessions at AOL.
[Eb]
[Ab] We came up with the name Sugarland talking to one of the girls that auditioned for the
band and I said where did you grow up and she said well I grew up in Atlanta but I was
born in Sugarland, Texas and I was just like [N] I love the way it sounded.
She looked at me across the girl's shoulder, right in my eye and I remember going oh.
I like the way it sounds too.
It sounds fun, it sounds light.
Yeah, it sounds positive.
Our manifesto in this band is to just make positive music that makes people feel good, you know.
[Bb]
[Eb] [Ab] I think the title for the record Twice the Speed of Life is indicative of a lot of things.
I think it's [N] indicative of the place we feel that we are in our lives right now and in our careers.
Everything seemed to happen very fast for us and so it feels like a bit [Db] of a whirlwind.
[Ab] [Db] My musical influences mainly were [Abm] my older brother and sister, whatever they listened to.
[Ab] So like Deep Purple and the Beatles and the Partridge family could totally have been found
on my turntable at four years old.
I just remember a lot of influences for me were my [B] mom's music, Rita Coolidge, Linda
Ronstadt, Crystal Gale.
My influences, I'm from East Tennessee and we could only get one [F] radio station and it
was a country station, it was an AM station.
Very early on in my life I had [Gb] the [E] opportunity to learn to play the violin when I was really young.
[Bb] So somewhere between like Vivaldi and Dolly Parton was how I was raised.
So when I got my first big city and I heard my first alternative music, I was there.
The clouds [G] had parted when I heard R.E.M.
[Bb]
[Bb] We all [F] listen to hip hop.
I love hip hop.
We live in Atlanta.
I love to dance.
[B] Yeah, we're from Atlanta.
I mean that's like a hip hop mecca.
We love Missy Elliott.
Yeah, Missy Elliott Outkast.
Ludacris.
Gotta be [A] more than this.
If I [E] wasn't a musician I'm sure I'd be doing something in the art [Gb] field.
I was a graphic artist and did art installations [Ab] for Reebok and Coca-Cola for trade shows and
stuff like that.
Build a 28 foot tennis shoe.
Sure, I can do that.
I'd be doing art.
I think if I weren't a musician I'd be scheming.
I think I would have my hands in a lot of pots.
What would you be doing if you weren't playing music, Christian?
What do you think I'd be doing?
Would you [Bb] be programming computers?
I would be a geek.
[E]
[F] Big change.
I actually am a geek.
I just have a really cool job that [Gb] offsets the geek sort of balance.
[Bbm] [Gb]
My [Db] motto is if I can see it I [Bb] can get there.
[E] Except I've lost it.
My motto is probably the right thing always happens.
It keeps me sane.
I think I have a couple of mottos that I have to remind myself of.
One of which is just don't stop.
If you just don't stop you're more than likely going to succeed because [Db] humans by nature are lazy.
So you might win just by being the only one standing there at the end.
You know what I'm saying?
Leave my troubles [Ab] behind.
[Bb] Now we're going to put you on the [Bb] spot.
Morning or night?
I'm a morning person.
Night.
Driver or passenger?
[Ab] Driver.
Video game driver.
VGD.
[B] This is my sidekick.
Musashi.
[Bb] They aren't lying.
Free Michael or free Martha?
Free Martha.
Elvis Presley or Johnny Cash?
Johnny Cash.
I like Elvis.
Okay.
That's because you're [Ab] married to him.
Stones or Beatles?
Beatles.
Stones.
Party like it's your birthday or party like it's 1999?
Like it's your birthday.
I think like it's your birthday.
I have to say 1999.
Romantic night in or wild night out?
Romantic [B] night in.
Romantic night in.
Shake your tail feather [Bb] or shake it like it's your birthday?
Shake it like a Polaroid picture.
Oh, oh, shake it like a Polaroid picture.
Shake your tail feather.
Pass.
Tackle or touch?
Tackle.
Both.
Tackle.
Boxers or briefs?
Yeah, box or briefs.
Box or briefs.
Yeah, box or briefs. Boxers, yeah.
You know, the type you want.
Are you asking?
Boxers.
But [Ab] I like the hybrid kind in between.
I like that.
I think that's a new invention and I think it's a great thing.
Box or brief?
[Bb] Box or brief.
Nude or pajamas?
Pajamas.
Pajamas.
Bush or Carrie?
Oh, pass.
