beauties roll by and sometimes [Bb] I'd hang my head and [C] cry,
me one that was long [F] and black.
devise myself a plan [Bb] that should be the envy of most any man.
of there in the lunchbox [F] in my head.

_ _ _ _ Well, I left Kentucky back in 49 [Bb] and went to Detroit working on assembly line.
[C] The first year they had me putting wheels [F] on Cadillacs.
_ Every day I'd watch them beauties roll by and sometimes [Bb] I'd hang my head and [C] cry,
cause I always wanted me one that was long [F] and black.
_ _ One day I'd devise myself a plan [Bb] that should be the envy of most any man.
[C] I'd sneak it out of there in the lunchbox [F] in my head.
_ Now getting caught meant getting [Bb] fired, but I figured I'd have it all by the time I [C] retired.
I'd have me a car worth at least [F] 100 grand.
_ I'd get it one piece at a [C] time, [Bb] and it wouldn't cost me a dime.
[C] You'll know it's me when I come through [F] your town.
_ I'm gonna ride around in style.
[Bb] I'm gonna drive everybody wild, [C] cause I'll have the only one there [F] is around.
_ So the very next day when I punched [Bb] in with my big lunchbox with help from my [C] friend,
I left that day with a [Em] [F] lunchbox full of gears. _ _
I've never considered myself a [Bb] thief, but GM wouldn't miss just one little [C] piece, especially
if I strung [G] it out over [F] several years.
_ The first day I got me a fuel [Bb] pump, and the next day I got me an engine and a [C] trump, then
I got me a [Em] transmission and [F] all the chrome.
_ The little things I could get in my big [Bb] lunchbox like nuts and bolts and all four [C] shocks, but
the big stuff we snuck [Em] out my [F] buddy's mobile home. _ _
Now up to now my plan went all [Bb] right till we tried to put it all together one [C] night,
and that's when we noticed that something was [F] definitely wrong.
_ The transmission was a [Bb] 53 and the motor turned out to be a [C] 73, and when we tried to put in
the [G] bolts all [F] the holes were gone.
_ So we drilled it out so that it would [Bb] fit, and with a little bit of help from an ADAPT
[C] kit we had that engine running just [F] like a song.
_ Now the headlights, there was another [Bb] sight, we had two on the left and one on the [C] right,
but when we pulled out the [G] switch all three [F] of them come on.
_ The back end looked kind of funny too, [Bb] but we put it together and when we got through,
[C] well that's when we noticed that we only had [F] one tail pin.
_ About that time my wife walked [Bb] out and I could see in her eyes that she had her doubts, [C] but
she opened the door and said, honey take me [F] for a spin.
_ So we drove uptown just to get the [Bb] tags and I headed to right old down Main Drag.
[C] I could hear [Em] everybody laughing for [F] blocks around, _ _ but up there at the courthouse they
didn't laugh [Bb] cause to type it up it took the whole staff, [C] and when they got through the
title [G] weighed [F] 60 pounds.
I got it one piece at a time [Bb] and it didn't cost me a dime, [C] you'll know it's me when I
[Em] come through [F] your town.
_ I'm gonna ride around in style, [Bb] I'm gonna drive everybody wild, [C] cause I'll have the
only [Em] one there [F] is around. _ _ _
_ Uh, yeah Red Rider this is the cottonmouth and the psychobilly Cadillac, come on.
_ Oh, _ this is the cottonmouth, the negatory on the cost of this machine there Red Rider.
You might say I went right up to the factory and picked it up, it's cheaper that way.
